The casual-dining chain will run an ad during Super Bowl XLIV between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints, announcing that customers can come to participating restaurants on Feb. 9, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. for free Grand Slam breakfasts, Nation's Restaurant News reported.
"We are leveraging the power of the Super Bowl once again to connect with our customers to keep Denny's in their hearts and minds," Nelson Marchioli, Denny's president and chief executive, told NRN.
Denny's said it served 2 million Grand Slam breakfasts during the promotion last year.
The Super Bowl ad will feature chickens, shocked at the breakfast giveaway, and tell customers "it's going to be a tough week for egg layers," Denny's told NRN.
Denny's, which like other casual-dining restaurants, has experienced a slump in sales during the economic downturn, and in addition to the Super Bowl ad and Grand Slam giveaway, the company told NRN it is hoping to highlight value this year. Other promotions include free Grand Slam breakfasts on birthdays and free refills on pancakes or fries.
"We know that times are still tough and a free, hot breakfast helps a lot of folks and their families," Marchioli told NRN.
"We heard from thousands last year who thanked us. This year Denny's will go beyond just one day of free meals by offering a number of everyday affordable programs all year."

1-30-2010 @11:33PM moose said... Why is this ad better than Tebowes? Because you still get to kill something in the Denny's ad. Tebowe's mother is celebrating life and you aren't going to like it. Amazing.
1-30-2010 @1:34PM denise said... then change the channel when Tebow's ad comes on---simple solution.

It was very well run and I was there from my home, back to my home in less than an hour. Service was great. I left a $5.00 tip (still less than what the breakfast would have cost) and my waiter was thrilled, as the table of 4 just before me, not only stiffed him on a tip, but left with their bill sitting on the table for 2 coffees. How awful of people to be such dirt bags. Drinks do not come with the free breakfast. All of the servers were complaining that their tips were very bad and they were working harder than on most days.

1-30-2010 @10:10AM Barney said... For a free breakfast there is no way I would leave a tip. Get a job that pays if you can't afford it.
1-30-2010 @10:31AM Cathy said... This is a reply to Barney. I don't know why you wouldn't tip if you were getting a free meal. I don't know how many of you are aware of it, but servers in restaurants get paid well below minimum wage. The belief is they will make up the difference in tips. I can understand not leaving if you received extremely poor service. However, those poor servers will be run ragged during the free meal time frame and deserve something for their hard work. I know you expect to get paid well for your work. Or, maybe you don't work???

To Pizzonlibs who wrote, Mr. Obama is so wonderful he asked Denny's to provide for us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I do hope that you were just being scarcastic with this statement and not the idiot that it came across, to beleive that Obama asked Denny's to have this free breakfast. This was done last year as well, and is being promoted by Denny's, not Obama. You are a true fool if you think otherwise and my guess...if you do believe such crap, you are probably one of the people that brings every friend and relative and stiffs the servers.

We went yesterday with my parents who were visiting, sat down, opened the menu and were shocked!!!! This is Denny's??? $8-$9 burgers!!!! That is ridiculous! It's not like they are some fancy romantic restaurant, it's more like a diner atmosphere! Come on Denny's LOWER YOUR PRICES!!!! Get real. Lower prices = more customers
1-30-2010 @11:07AM anonymous said... Lets everybody just ignore barney. He prob says such idiotic things just to get people angry and get attention. Maybe im just naiive but i cant believe anyone would be so ungrateful for a free meal that they wouldnt pay the poor server who worked to make their free meal enjoyable. Then the comment "if they cant afford not to be tipped they should get a different job". The economy kinda prevents that, and he/she COULD afford their job if people didnt stiff them. If you cant afford to tip, STAY HOME. The kind thing to do is to see what the meal would cost and base the tip on that if you were paying. Where's the ettiquette? Would you tip a server if you got a gift card to a restaurant for a free meal? Sheesh. Im really hoping this guy isnt for real.

For the person who said they need to lower their prices, Egad Man, Denny's serves huge breakfasts at a very good price already. I can't imagine how they can serve that much food and still make money. And yes, Always tip your server, those people work for next to nothing, tips are how they pay their bills. Yes, times are tough for a lot of folks, if you can't tip, stay home and eat.
