The Whopper Bar will sell beers from Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors alongside its Whoppers and fries in an effort to compete with casual dining restaurants in areas with high pedestrian traffic. Beer options will include Budweiser, Bud Lite, Bud Lite Lime and Miller Lite.
"Serving as an 'innovation lab' with new features and menu items, the Whopper Bar demonstrates how Burger King Corp. is always looking for new ways to provide a premium restaurant experience," Burger King spokeswoman Lauren Ross told Slashfood.
"The beer products make for a perfect pairing with a customized Whopper sandwich."
The Whopper Bars will offer an expanded menu of burgers, toppings and beer and could show up in other cities around the country including New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Chuck Fallon, president of Burger King North America told USA Today.
"You can have America's favorite beers with America's favorite burger," Fallon said.
Beers will sell for $4.25 and combo meals with beer in place of a fountain drink will cost $7.99, about $2 more than the meal-soda combo, the paper reported.
Restaurant consultant Linda Lipsky told USA Today that the move shows the fast-food chain is trying to "grow up" with its aging customers.
The South Beach Whopper Bar is scheduled to open mid-February and will be open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Much of its menu -- except for breakfast, frozen treats and beer -- will be available for delivery.

I stopped eating at Burger King long ago in favor of family friendly businesses. It used to be my favorite fast food place but no more.

Knew it was only a matter of time before some fast food places started giving adults what they want. And no, I do not drink alcohol when out to eat.... Alcohol kills more innocent victims them smoking does..

Now if they said they are turning all their Burger Kings into Burger Bars then I would understand your comments. I would think they are starting in Miami and if it does well it will probably open up in select cities where this would fit in. Sort of what Starbucks is doing with their new cafes.

1-22-2010 @7:18PM Octavio said... Yeah, Burger King and Budweiser is the perfect fit. South Beach is so GHETTO!

Based on your verbage and insight, it sounds like you you work for Burger King Corporate in Miami?
Do you speak for Burger King and Anheuser-Busch when you call us, your target audience/customers, "rednecks"?
Thanks for the information. Us "rednecks" will spend our "redneck" dollars where it is appreciated.......at the competitors!

There are SO many places that offer this. I love Burger King and I like the idea of a brew to wash it down with when I am in the mood. There are a lot of places I could go and probably spend more to get the same thing!

I actually thought they were going to do something decent, like offering a whole-wheat bun substitution. A celery stick, carrot and broccili spear substitution for the fries would make some long-lived friends as well. Take note fast food chains: prolonging the life spans of your customers makes good business sense!
