Texas Woman Finds Tooth in Milky Way Bar

An East Texas woman got a surprise when she bit into a Milky Way candy bar on a recent road trip, KLTV 7 news reported.

While driving from her home in Brownsboro, Texas, to Dallas on New Year's Day, Sue Calhoun brought her usual road-trip snack: a candy bar and a Coke.

"I took one bite and it was fine, then I took another bite and bit down on something and thought, 'Well, it may be a peanut,'" Calhoun told KLTV 7.

But it wasn't a peanut. Calhoun said she instead found a tooth with a silver filling in her Milky Way.

"Every time I think about it, I kind of get sick to my stomach because I don't know what kind of mouth it came out of," Calhoun told KLTV 7.

She called the manufacturer to report the incident, and Mars Chocolate North America wanted her to send the tooth and the candy to the company, Calhoun said. The company offered her free candy coupons and an apology, KLTV 7 reported.

"We recently learned of the possible presence of a foreign object in one package of our Milky Way product, in the Brownsboro, TX, area. Food safety and product quality are of paramount importance to Mars and we are committed to the highest standards of quality and safety," Marsh Chocolate North America said in a statement.

"We have been in touch with Ms. Calhoun and have already taken steps to ensure that the product in question is returned to us for evaluation. Since we are currently in the middle of this process, no conclusion has been reached at this time."

I was chewing a piece of caramel, when I felt something hard, looked at the candy and freaked out with grossness because there was a tooth in the candy. A few seconds later after grossing my poor daughter out too, I felt my mouth didn't feel right, checked and realized the tooth was mine. It was actually a tooth I had a root canal on a looooong time ago that came up with the caramel. I too thought immediately to call the candy company, but ended up getting my tooth fixed.

If it doesn't say "Made in AMERICA" (the greatest country in the world) I won't buy it and I won't let my kids have it. Brach's has lost all my business, all their crap says "Made in Mexico".

BTW the article says that the Milky Way bar was from an are in the US so saying you'll get only "American" (which in my opinion is not a proper term for something of US-orgin) because anythiung else is bad quality, that's just plain hypocritical.

There is North, South, and Central America so before preaching and going on with your nativism about how great America is, don't use terms that only make you look like a retard.
A tooth in a candy bar? Get real. Mexico isn't to blame.

I used to work as a CSR for Campbell's soup and I would get at least 2-3 per week. Multiply that by the other 50 or so people who worked in my unit and it's easy to see why the company requests the evidence.

Kath

1-20-2010 @10:26PM Kath said... Yes. Machines DO make mistakes Jon, but last time I looked they do not have teeth. If someone has a legitimate claim, they sue. They do not send the evidence back to the manufacturer! I mean is that stupid or what? They have their own experts examine the evidence and then present that in court. But bottom line is that they have to show that they have suffered damage or could have suffered damage. In this case, they could have contracted a disease, etc. But honestly? Unless the tooth came from the chocolate before it was shipped, I think this story is highly unlikely.

Second thought - "Candy coupons? No thanks, I don't need any more of your delightful product?"
Third thought - "Candy AND a Coke? Sugar overload. In a couple of years, that will be her own tooth coming out ."

I am a dental assistant and I actaully was grossed out by this. I KNOW mouths! I KNOW teeth! I do not get grossed out easily. But, this? wow! I would be all over it! Not acceptable at all! I would NOT take no damn coupons. Do you know the pysch damage that does to a person. lo seriosuly, I might have dreams about this now. I mean HOW are teeth getting anywhere near the candy m king process anyway? Most are done by machine, people aren't around. So, WHERE is this material coming from that a tooth would get in it? Coupons my ass! lol

They offered her coupons but nothing more. She won't eat ice cream again. Unfortunately she's really turned off by food now and barely eats. It angers me that someone could let this happen. Someone knew they lost a tooth that day and yet who know how much ice cream went out from that batch. My mom won the unlucky lottery.
