Barbie has apparently become a foodie as well. Her kitchen is fully stocked, and she has all the camera gear needed for a full-on cooking show. To be honest, we think her skirt is questionably short for actual cooking, but that aside she could conceivably pass as a Sandra Lee-Giada hybrid. And yes, we kind of want one for the office . . .

Now so many children want to be chefs or have some type of career involving food. I think it is great, I have been in food service most of my adult life, it's hard work but extremely satisfying. So TV chef Barbie is perfect for reflecting how times have changed.

Considering my 11yo daughter created a mix-n-match version of this Barbie set years ago (from garage sale food finds and misc. kitchen appliance finds), this is a winner. And that filming camera assumes she'll be all set to host a show -- wow, (even with that short skirt) have we come a long way, baby!?

1-12-2010 @2:30PM Samantha said... Image problems come from the home, not Barbies. It is up to the parents to let children know that they are acceptable and that their bodies are unique and shouldn't hold Barbie as a standard body type. With 35% of our children being obese, maybe having a prototype that has a fit physique will let them know that it's not okay to be 25 lbs. overweight and that they need to be active. So, don't blame Barbie for distorted body images. Blame parents that let their children sit in front of a computer or television for hours at a time with no physical activity. A sound body really is a sound mind.

I could go on to list her many careers but that could take all day. As a bonafide Barbie lover though I have to say, the skirt on this one is way too short and inappropriate for this job. Somebody at Mattel screwed up.

My daughter is five and the longer the skirts are the harder they are for little hands to put on.... so maybe, just maybe thats why they are the length they are!! So I agree with Cindy & BigD who cares how short the skirts are, unless your some kind of Barbie pervert!!!
