Chinese Cooking Wine - Tip of the Day

Can't find Chinese cooking wine for tonight's stir-fry? Here is a supermarket-friendly alternative.

Many Asian stir-fries and other dishes call for Chinese cooking wine, also known as Shaoxing wine, but sometimes it can be hard to find at regular supermarkets.

Luckily, another spirit you may have around the house works well as a substitute: dry Spanish sherry. Sub it in for the same results.

One caveat: Make sure to avoid so-called "cooking wine," which is often heavily salted, low-quality and can diminish all of your hard work in the kitchen.
