Kim Kardashian Stars in Latest Carl's Jr. Commercial

Carl's Jr. likes its commercials as spicy as its barbecue burgers -- with plenty of sexual suggestion on the side. Paris Hilton, Audrina Patridge (in a bikini on the beach) and Padma Lakshmi have all flaunted themselves in sexy ads for the company's Western Bacon, Spicy Barbecue and Teriyaki Burgers. Who can forget the 2005 ad starring Paris Hilton in leather and high heels, hosing down a Bentley while at the same time devouring a spicy barbecue burger?

Now it's Kim Kardashian's turn. But instead of burgers, she'll be shilling salads. The reality star is promoting Carl's three new entrée salads in a commercial that debuts on Dec. 28. With a "Who Says Salads Can't Be Hot?" campaign tagline, the company is counting on Kardashian's sex appeal to sell what many fast-food fans find decidedly unsexy.

Judging by the behind-the scenes video preview, Kardashian is giving everything she's got to change that image. In the ad, Kardashian is lounging on a bed, eating a Carl's Jr. salad with only her fingers. A far more suggestive shot shows the dark-haired beauty wiping salad dressing from her cleavage with what appears to be an apple slice.

"It's true, I love to have bed picnics," Kardashian says about her salad-in-bed commercial. "I'm such a neat freak, but I put out my towel and eat in bed, and then when it gets all messy I take a hot bubble bath after to wash it off."

It might take a while to wash off the ingredients in these salads, which hit Carl's Jr. stores on Dec. 14.

The "Cranberry, Apple, Walnut, Grilled Chicken Salad" costs $4.99 and has 450 calories, according to a company press release.

The "Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad" also costs $4.99 and is spiced with sliced red onions, roasted corn, black beans, shredded cheese and bacon bits, chipotle Caesar dressing and tortilla strips.

The "Original Grilled Chicken Salad is a bit less at $4.79 and is garnished with red onions, shredded cheese, wedge tomatoes, cucumber slices and croutons.

But not everyone will be celebrating the salacious salad ad. Tim Winter, the president of the Parents Television Council, a Los Angeles based advocacy group, says that Carl's Jr. is "using soft-core porn to market their hamburgers."

"It looks like they're going through the list of every celebrity that's made a home porn movie," Winter says. "If they want to be as profitable as McDonald's, they should reach out to families like McDonald's does."

Kardashian will also be hosting a Jan. 13 "virtual lunch date" with Carl's Jr. customers on Facebook. Customers who purchase one of the three salads between Dec. 30 and Jan. 12 are eligible for the virtual liaison.

" 'Who says salads can't be hot' is the perfect tagline for these salads," Kardashian says in the video promo. "Salads are sexy. When you're eating something that tastes good and you know is good for you, that's sexy. That's hot."

Paris Hilton couldn't have said it any better. Time will tell if Carl's Western Bacon Burger-loving customers agree.

Results showed that the majority of female respondents (69%) indicated that they found the ad at least somewhat offensive or inappropriate. Also, while men’s perception of the Carl’s Jr. brand increased in favorability after viewing the video, women’s perception of the brand became less favorable after watching the ad. THIS IS SHREDDED CORNED BEEF!!! There is cheese on it, about a teaspoon of it. The salad fills maybe half of the bowl and comes with a scant little sack of tortilla strips.

The “house dressing” is gross, and has nothing on the package but a list of horrifying ingredients. There is nothing in the way of nutritional info at all. ACK!!

I gave them a chance after swearing them off years ago because of their disgusting porno advertising. If I knew they were still using strippers for ads, I would have never stopped there today.

I won’t be going back to Carl’s EVER.

Sex has its place, but it shouldn't be thrown at us from all directions. I blame the media (of course) whose favorite slogan is "sex sells".
