In order to do achieve a flawless flip, run a knife around the cake to loosen the edges of the cake from the pan. Then, set a plate that's larger than the cake on the top of the pan -- making sure the bottom of the plate is facing toward the ceiling.
Gripping the pan and plate at both sides, quickly flip over the pan and plate in one swift motion so that the plate is now on the bottom.
Wait a few minutes before gently pulling the pan off the cake. Worst case scenario: Remove any remnants stuck to the top of the pan and sneakily put them back on top of the cake -- nothing a decorative garnish can't hide.
