Anne Burrell, Food Network Star Sued for Sexual Discrimination

If the allegations in a recently leaked discrimination suit against celebrity chef Anne Burrell are true, contestants on her new Food Network reality show may have gotten an earful about more than their poor stirring techniques.

Former employees say Burrell, whose "Worst Cooks in America" competition debuts next month, "constantly harassed (them) with sexually discriminatory and derogatory remarks." The complaint, filed earlier this year, was publicized today by blogger Abbe Diaz, whose husband, Sasha Muniak, owned the New York restaurant where the incidents allegedly occurred and is named as a defendant.
According to the suit, rehashed in a dismissal motion, Burrell was hung up on Centro Vinoteca's employees' breasts; She told one employee that leaning over the bar was "slutty," commented "repeatedly" on another employee's cleavage and announced that a bartender had "saggy boobs," creating a special "saggy boob" hand gesture to mock her. The complaint further states that Burrell suspended an employee for allegedly stealing a piece of cheese, claimed an employee faked an ovarian cyst and banged a pan when a manager urged her to be a better communicator.

Burrell, a veteran of the Batali-Bastianich empire, served as Centro's executive chef from July 2007 through September 2008. She now stars on Food Network's "Secrets of a Restaurant Chef".

The lawsuit remains in court.

She is no longer the apple of our eyes.
She could wind up eating crow.
She is two eggs short of a dozen.
Not the sharpest knife in the kitchen.
oh lordy, lordy

Everything she says is like a watered down version of the same things Batali says, only without the personal experiences of a lifetime of achievements to lend her any real credibility. As for crude remarks, ONLY in America would people be so thin-skinned to file a lawsuit over such a thing. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Some people just look for a fast and easy buck. Alleging discrimination seems to be the thing.

When I go to a restaurant I don't want to see my waitress' cleavage and would certainly resent a saggy bartender draping her tata's over the bar in front of my date. Anne made very valid points to these obvious roadhouse rejects. Thank the liberals for shoving political correctness down our throats and making freedom of speech a memory.

Employers should be able to critisize their employees' personal appearance and demeanor since these have a direct impact on customers and, hence, the success of the business. Employees should pack up and go elsewhere if they don't like it. Our economy has suffered because of thse employee-friendly lawsuits that have dominated the past decades.

There's a HUGE difference between criticizing their employee's personal appearance and demeanor (within a certain degree, if I'm meeting the dress code and clean and neat then I better not hear anything else) and blatantly making comments about someone's breasts-- and MORE than one person's breasts because if you read closely that's three employees-- and even going so far as to make up a hand gesture so that if you're not quite within earshot of the employee you can still berate and humiliate them about something they have NO control over. THAT is very out of line and not just discriminatory but SEXUAL HARASSMENT to the extreme. And if you complain that sexual harassment is a tool created by the PC obsessed left wing then you're an idiot.

It sounds to me like these employees are simply looking for a quick buck and their 15 minutes of fame. Otherwise, why did they wait until she has a new show ready to start before they filed their complaint? Yes, there are some lawyers (both liberal and conservative) who'll take ANY case if they think it'll make them money or get them attention, but let's keep things in perspective.

Ms Burrell should come out on top-these crybaby bartenders seem to forget they are in a customer service business-and grow up!!I had a friend whoworked for an airline years ago-she went on a vacation w/her husband to Hong Kong w/a carrier surprisingly still in business-they stopped in Seattle to refuel and pick up passengers and get the trans pacific flight crew. The flight attendant
in her coach section wasnt very nice to them because they flew at a discount and she was too old for her braided hair style-as were most of her fellow attendants.....primadonnas,I guess.......

She cannot pronounce easy words such as Bolognese and she is far too harsh in both her words and mannerisms. Mike...as for why most chefs resumes read like they are world travellers, there is a train of thought that unless you study in Italy or France you have no credentials.

I also agree that she uses waaaay too much salt in her pasta water. You should not use salt as the main flavor for your pasta.
