Martha Stewart Confession: I Ate Out on Thanksgiving

Even Martha Stewart needs some time off from the kitchen every now and again. The domestic diva admitted on her Twitter last week that she ate out on Thanksgiving.

"Full confession: I did not cook on Thanksgiving -- went to Per Se for brunch and to watch the Macy's parade -- dinner with friends at Four Seasons," she wrote Friday. "Four Seasons did a great job -- turkey for each table, all the fixings, soufflés for dessert, pretty impressive considering a full house!"

Stewart ended her Thanksgiving with a screening of the "Twilight" film "New Moon," which she called "really excellent," though she found the wolves to be "mangy."

The eating out revelation came just a couple of days after she demonstrated turkey roasting on the "Today Show."

What do you think? Should Martha have cooked her own feast? Or do you approve of eating out for Thanksgiving?

Its just another example of how selfish people can be. You get to be with your family why shouldn't they get to be with their family!!!!!!!!!!!

Even sadder to see her empty chair at the dinner table.

They ususally have private family plans before or after the restaurants dinner shifts or even the following day. After all. Are we celebratint the date or the event? No harm in having Thanksgiving dinner on Friday or Christmas dinner on December 26th.

I, personally, don't care to eat out on holidays because I do feel sorry for the workers not being with their families. But, maybe in this economy, it's a good thing to give the restaurants and their employees the business - to each his own.

It was nice for me to go out and eat instead of being home by myself. Maybe Stephanie should think about all situations. I know that I am thankful to have places to eat and I make sure that they get an good tip for being there on the holiday.

Last year my kitchen was in shambles due to a remodel so we had no choice but to eat our Thanksgiving dinner at a local diner before 2 pm. While it was OK, it was nothing like Thanksgiving dinner at home. NYC is different. There are tons of good restaurants open all hours. So I don't blame Martha for dining out. Good for her!

Although I generally agree who cares what she did for Thanksgiving but I agree w/ Stephanie that it's selfish to not think about the people that have to work on holidays - I worked retail for over 15 years and the holiday thing was too much.

There is nothing wrong with individuals or small families eating at a restaurant on Thanksgiving.

Where/what people eat on the holidays & if/how they choose to celebrate them is entirely up to them & isn't anybody elses's business so I personally don't care what Martha S. did for Thanksgiving. And while I do have empathy for those who have to work the holidays, they had to know when they selected their line of work that holidays were expected of them. I know-I am a nurse & pulled a 12 hr shift Thanksgiving day. My son-in-law is a police officer & has worked many holidays. I sincerely hope you and your loved ones never require either of our professions on the holidays, but it is comforting to know if needed help will be there even on the holidays. Hope you safely enjoy the upcoming festivities!

Most likely, the ones who really wanted to be home with families were able to do so. I am sure there are exceptions, but, in today's economy, I promise you, most of the people working on Thanksgiving Day were more than glad to be there doing so.

My husband and I have both worked holidays in the food service industry in the past and it paid for our holiday shopping in one night of work. Great trade off. We volunteered to work holidays. Also, we enjoyed dinner with family before we went to work or after work. And if I take advantage of eating out on a holiday, I tip my server very well.

The public has to let up and not put everything under a spyglass. Our entertainers are not relatives. Martha makes homemaking a wonderful career. Stop and Enjoy

I have 32 steps to my apartment. I would much rather be able to cook for the whole family, trust me. Next year it will be a nicer restaurant ... as long as the economy recovers! Please be less judgmental about Martha and about the people who pay the bills so that restaurant folks can live.
