Planned 'Twilight' Restaurant Changes Name

So much for a menu of blood oranges and garlic: The owners of a planned "Twilight"-themed eatery in Forks, Wash., say they're studiously avoiding vampire cuisine.

The logging town of Forks, as depicted in Stephenie Meyer's hugely popular series of teenage romances, is overrun with vampires. But, according to Annette Root, the real Forks has a bigger problem.

"It's very difficult to find something to eat in Forks after 8 o'clock," sighs Root, a "Twilight" gift shop owner who's opening the Lodge in Forks.

That's why Root and her husband, Tim, are designing the Lodge as a "cross between Red Robin and Applebee's." The family-style restaurant will round out Forks' current dining-out lineup, which Root says includes "two pizzerias, two Chinese restaurants, two Mexican restaurants and two coffee shops."

"It's going to be very straightforward and wholesome," Root says. "We'll have soups, salads, sandwiches and seafood."

After initially toying with the name Volterra, in honor of the Italian city where the books' most powerful vampires live, the Roots decided to name their first-ever eatery after the fictional restaurant where characters Charlie and Bella share a graduation meal. "People come to town looking for it," Root explains.

Root says the restaurant will be so "subtly themed" that diners set on having a nice meal without vampire overtones will never notice the "Twilight" tie-in. But the Roots are planning to bestow "Twilight"-inspired names on some of their dishes, and offer a few "Twilight"-ish cocktails.

Root refused to reveal the ingredients for the cocktails she's crafting, but promised Slashfood a future exclusive.

"I am not at liberty to discuss it," she said with the gravity of someone who's accustomed to dealing with the undead. "But you will be the first one I tell."

It isn't shocking that not much is open after 8 pm! It is in the middle of nowhere!

The version I have did not say the actual name, just that it came from the book. If you have not read the book you'd have no way of knowing it was called The Lodge.

Seems to me they could have spelled out the name of the restaurant much clearer. That poor writers for you. Guess good old Hanna Raskin is just trying to get people to read what she wrote because "Twilight" is in the title.
