Speaking with ABC's "Nightline" in an interview to air Thursday night, Stewart says what Ray does isn't good enough for her.
"To me she professed that she cannot bake," Stewart says of Ray. "She just did a new cookbook which is just a re-edit of a lot of her old recipes, and that's not good enough for me. I really want to write a book that is a unique and lasting thing -- something that will fulfill a need in someone's library. So she's different, she's more of an entertainer than she is -- with a bubbly personality -- than she is a teacher like me. That's not what she's professing to be."
When asked about Stewart's comments, Ray says "It's true. It's 100 percent true," but adds the criticism doesn't upset her.
"Why would it make me mad?" Ray says. "When it comes to producing a beautiful, perfect, high quality meal, I'd rather eat Martha's than mine too."
Who do you like better? Martha or Rachael? Spill it in the comments.

Though Martha has set an impossibly high standard for most to meet, her presentations have encouraged people to stretch their imaginations and try (not always successfully) to emulate her suggestions. Rachel provides a more mainstream, attainable approach to food. Both have their merits and drawbacks. To say that one is "good enough" and another "not good enough" is to ignore the variety of food occasions of a rounded lifestyle. There is no "right" and "wrong" when it comes to food.....as long as it is safe, it is "right" to someone at some time.

Rachael Ray is a real person that the average person can relate to. Ms.Stewart might fix fancy meals for the "upper class" but not many of the average citizens care for that type of meal. Rachael Ray gives more for the majority to experience new tastes without all the hoopla. My vote if for Rachael and Ms.Stewart needs to stay in her own little world.

Sorry, but I'd rather listen to and watch an honest, down to earth non-chef showing me how to do something that anyone could handle than a former convict with 1000 people around her trying to make her look like a good chef/whatever else she thinks she is!!! Heck....with all those people, I could look and sound good and make a crazy meal as well!!

Rachael however, is quick, sweet, funny, and effective. I do not care to weave cotton doilies for the guest bathroom from the west colligoggin cotton plant. Martha! Get a grip!
I do think there is a place for both of these talented ladies.
How ironic that RR handled the hateful, and very unlady like criticism like more of a lady than the older supposedly better versed Martha.

Most people, not all, who come from poor backgrounds, then becomes part of the "rich", always act like they are "better" than everyone else.
My guess, this is because they fear someone realizing that they are the "nouveau riche", and not part of
the elite, old money families; that their background is really a "commoner".
Martha's behavior is a real turnoff. And her hauntingly behavior is a dead givaway to her origins.
She might dine with the upper class, but won't really be part of it for, at least, two generations.
Although I am not a Rachel Ray fan, she is a more likable, down to earth person.
Martha Stewart's insecurities are showing!

I can do everything she does...but I have to clean up afterwards... Most of the women in my family are the same, we all cook, sew, garden, can, make jellies/jams/marmalades, bake (breads, pastries, pies, cakes, cookies). We all knit, crochet, do all kinds of crafts too. We were taught to do those things by our mothers. Martha RULES. She is a talented, successful business woman. I subscribe to her magazines, only magazines I save. The women in my family are all uncontrollable collectors too. and That's a nother reason I appreciate Martha.

I think that is what Martha is jealous of. Ray has a different take on things and does them like any other ordinary, everyday kitchen cook which makes it fun and interesting. No One I know would ever set a meal like Martha. Way too fancy and overboard. Our family likes our company and food better than the place settings. We are paper plates and plastic forks and knives because of the sheer size of our family. Get a life Martha.

Boy this is so close to Kanye ripping applause away from Taylor. Rachel is cool, classy and a lot of fun. That's what we need not ugliness and her depressing comments. Can we ask the elder Stewart to just be quiet?

If so; then I must believe that Martha Stewart has a very large staff that - prepares the foods for her and tells her how the foods are prepared. also...that she has a very hostile attitude towards anyone (or thing) that does not do as she tells them to. Ms. Ray, on the other hand, has a very sweet/girl next door attitude about everything and to everything. That is "including" her family. As for the cooking technetics --- I'll take Ms. Ray's over Ms. Stewarts any time! And people have told me I'm a gourmet cook. However; that, I do not agree with.

Rachael Ray is more about making a good dinner for you and your blue-collar family, after you've gotten home from work and don't have a lot of time to spend creating the "perfect" meal. Rachael Ray is a cook, not a chef and she makes that clear all the time. I get the vibe from Martha Stewart, that she looks down upon the middle-class, blue-collar types. Although she can be a little over-the-top sometimes, I think Rachael Ray has a little more appeal to the common people who want to be able to make a good meal that doesn't take all day to prepare.
