Cleaning the Pesky Roasting Pan Residue - Tip of the Day

Removing sticky residue from your roasting pans is a cinch with this housekeeping secret.

Wasteful as it may be, have you ever considered throwing out your roasting pan altogether in frustration at some troublesome residue? Lining your pan with aluminum foil might assuage the main problem, but creates another: You'll find it harder to collect the desirable pan juices.

Instead, the key to clean pans probably lies in your pantry: baking soda! If residue won't lift easily after you've soaked the pan in warm soapy water, pour the liquid out and sprinkle the pan generously with baking soda. Next mix together 1/3 cup vinegar with one cup hot water, and pour it into the pan. The pesky buildup will be easily removed by the fizzy solution.
