McDonald's Pepper Spray Prank Leaves 6 Hospitalized

Six people were hospitalized and 31 others injured Sunday after a hazardous chemical incident at a McDonald's in North Carolina.

The customers and employees were injured Sunday morning at an eatery in Knightdale, N.C. Fire Marshal Rusty Styons told the News & Observer that pepper spray or ammonia was likely to blame. The injured complained about burning eyes and noses.

"It appeared to be airborne," Eddie Ross, an official with Eastern Wake Emergency Medical Services, told the paper. "I don't think it was anything in the food."

An unnamed employee said someone left pepper spray on the hand dryer in the men's restroom and it spread after the dryer was turned on, the Associated Press reports.

I then took it out of my mouth to discover that it was a used band-aid that the baker had on his finger and accidently got mixed into the mix, Tell me that isn't the grossest thing you ever heard. I went there after and confronted the situation and he admitted to it, He was so sorry, and gave me the story about his children and how he could'nt afford to lose his job. So ma as a softie let it go. I was about to punch him in his big head! This happened in East Boston Mass. Since then, the store closed down, I wonder why? Could it be from band-aids in your muffins??? YUKKY!

How did a prank by unknown individuals turn into Muslim terrorist acts, bored teenagers gone wild, or even better a black teenager? There was nothing in that article that indicated this was a religious (Muslim) hate crime OR that it was a racial thing. Regardless of WHO pulled the prank... it was an irresponsible, careless, & reckless act which compromised the well being of others. You people need to get a life!! How about going to the local Boy's/Girl's club & offer to mentor some of these teenagers that have been accused of being social menaces.

Commit a crime that could cost you a bundle and possibly wind you up in jail because someone forgot to put your BBQ sauce in your bag. Do you not realize how idiotic that sounds? Why not just call the store and talk to the manager and voice your complaints. If nothing gets resolved don't go back to that store. Sheeshhhhhhhhh that's just what people need to be doing. Committing crimes for something as silly as having something left out of your fast food order. Hell, if you're going to drive all the way back to toss the brick why not just go inside and tell them what they forgot and get it then?

Yes, BORED TEENAGERS are the biggest culprits for this kind of prank. And NO they don't think of the consequences of their actions. Why should they? Nothing will be done to them. The parents will come out and talk about what a great kid they are, good in school, and all that happy horse pucky. And of course it just had to happen because they were bullied at school or something like that. If more parents would actually pay attention to what their kids are doing while running the streets you'd see less of this kind of thing happening. If more kids were being forced to take responsibility for their actions instead of being given a pass due to some imaginary mental health issue or because someone maybe made fun of them or some lame excuse like that you wouldn't see this kind of thing happening. All you have to do is look around at the adults that are leading this country and their way of blaming everyone and everything else for their own screw ups and you'll see why so many bored teenagers feel they can do this kind of thing and not have to take the blame for it. This country has lost all Personal Responsibility and we have no one to blame but ourselves.

My cousin and I were at the Galleria and went to the restroom. We came out and I was putting on my lipstick. She looked down into my purse and saw a beeper. She commented on it. I told her no, that is pepper spray disguised to look like a beeper. I have never used it. My boss gave it to me because I come out of work late at night, by myself, with money. Spray it there in the sink to see if it works.
She only spray a drop. I mean, literally smaller than dime sized. She said, yes, it works, turned on the water to rinse it away. WRONG thing to do. Obviously the water reacted to the chemicals in it or activated some chemical in it because the next thing we know, there is an aweful, choking, chemical in the air. The minute she ran the water over it, the fumes came out of the sink and we began choking, and coughing. We backed away but the woman at the sink next to us just stood there. She got it worse. She was caughing so hard she could barely stand up. Then the "fog" started drifting through the bathroom and the people in the stalls began coughing too. As we were leaving, the fog was traveling out the door and down the hallway. People walking toward the bathroom began coughing and questioning what it was.
The woman got security after us and we were taken to the upper floor for questioning. They released us becasue they could tell we were telling the truth and it was accidental. But I am telling you, it was bad! And it was only a drop!!
I am not a child. I was not a child then. I was an adult woman of 35 years old. I felt bad for what happened that day, especially to the woman at the sink next to us. No one died, or suffered any severe injuries, but there for a minute, we did wonder if we were ever going to get our breath back.
Sounds like a lot of these customers will be trying to get rich soon. And they may do it. Like I said, ours was a drop. How much was sprayed there???

EXCUSE ME MISS! I do believe that this statement was entirely rude and condescending. Our kids?? You've got to be joking. Who are you to cluster the youth as a whole to be bad? Honestly you are so judgmental that it makes my insides turn. Have you ever brought into consideration that "our kids" are acting out because of situations and life experiences that they have been through? Anyone has the potential to be emotionally scarred by an event in their life that causes them to act in an unfavorable way. Some people cannot handle loss or trauma the way that others can and possibly they are holding in their troubles instead of discusing them or seeking professional help. This is one of the main reasons that there are counselors in schools- to help the students through hard times.

I am not protecting all teenagers but it is insanely unjust to blame a group as a whole when clearly it is not the entire group. The least you could say is "some teenagers" or "a handful of kids" have strayed down the wrong path. Even with such phrases I hope that nobody is jumping to any conclusions and I hope that they can expand their thinking into the "why" factor. I trust that not all people have a seemingly bad twist to their personality and instead of bad mouthing and seemingly upsizing the situation think about what may have drove the individual to their chosen actions.

The employment rate here is so high that the McDonald's employees are mostly adults over 25 and adults who cannot live on their retirement. And in response to the person who goes to the drive through and their order is wrong. When I buy meals for my grandchildren at McDonald's, I always double check my order while at the window. It annoys their employees but at least I know my order is correct.
