11-06-2009 @12:24PM Samme said... For me the comfort foods I have stopped eating are mostly breakfast foods. French toast (with sausage or bacon). Crisp fried hash browns under fried eggs to soak up the yolks. That kind of thing. Mostly now it's whole-grain-cereal with skim-milk and fruit. It is all good really.

11-06-2009 @1:56PM Allison said... None of the above if their richness comes from the right kind of fats -- butter, coconut oil, olive oil or poultry fats. You'll feel full and satisfied faster and thus eat less (actually consuming fewer or the same amount of calories); your body will thank you for the enzymes so necessary to get nutrients where they need to go -- and so much more.

"lightening them up" sort of defeats the purpose. it's the richness and fat that makes them comforting. sure there are low fat/cal versions but if i'm craving mashed potatoes, you'd better believe i'm loading them with cream and butter. if i just want potato, baked or roasted will suffice.
