Todd English on His Canceled Wedding: 'I Couldn't Go Through With It'

Todd English is speaking out for the first time since calling off his wedding to Erica Wang.

"I couldn't go through with it," the 49-year-old chef of Olives told People. "I thought I'd met my partner, but as things progressed [it] went down hill."

English has appeared on "Iron Chef America" and PBS's "Cooking Under Fire."

In the People interview, English accused his jilted fiancee of "physical and verbal abuse" and allegedly hitting him in the eye in September. The New York Post reports Thursday that English visited a New York City police precinct to report the allegations.

But she denied the abuse allegations to the New York Post earlier this week, telling the paper that English has left her without a job (she was his personal assistant) and an apartment, and forced her to pay $12,000 for wedding expenses.

"An animal wouldn't treat another animal the way he has treated me," Wang told the Post. "He is forgetting I am human. I don't deserve this. He has caused me, my friends and family so much pain."

Slashfood reported on Oct. 5 that Wang had thrown a party despite the nuptials being called off.

Average White Boy

These women sure know how to get ahead. Even throwing a party with the wedding canceled. No shame at all. The boss is now claiming that he's being beaten up. I guess he's really whipped.

I'm sure Ms. Wang will turn around and become another guy's personal assistant to start the game anew.

I thought he was handsome, and well built. It's refreshing to see a chef take care of themselves, instead of becoming grossly overweight just because they work in the kitchen.

Good luck, Todd. It's better to get out and stay out of an abusive relationship. I've survived one from a Mexican/Latin-American male, but it nearly cost me my life after he kidnapped and assaulted me, while threatening to kill me. Be careful of the Latinas, too. They seem to become very abusive (emotionally and physically), jealous, and possessive.

I hope he will start a show on Food TV show. Or if this "Olives" is a show, I am unaware of it, would like info what channel it is on. I wish him the best and I hope she will get help for her abusive character.

I am glad Todd had the presence of mind to go to the police when these incidents took place because had he not, she surely would have. Look at Jon and Kate..we WATCHED her abuse him on national tv and it was never mentioned in the media. You better believe had Jon been the one to speak to Kate in that manner OR administer what she referred to as "love taps" he wouldve been called an abusive husband.
I am a female and all for equal rights..but until women start taking their roles seriously and not constantly being 'the victim'(Kate) we will never be taken seriously. I dont care how much bigger or stronger a man is than a woman...if she's verbally abusive or slapping him...she too should be held responsible for her actions.

Abuse is abuse no matter what gender is administering it and women hiding behind the victime veil is doing nothing for real womens progress. Kate Gosselin is the best example of that!

You can't call the authorities... the cop will always go with the lady's version. that's happened to me. She destroyed my 1000 strat, she used to come at me with spatulas because she didn't like how i washed the dishes. She used to lock me out in below freezing weather. She also stole 6000 bucks from me. but she was cute as a button.

As far as taking some las vegas looking hooker into a banquet room to screw with his wife in the dining room. Once a cheater always a cheater. I bet Erica Wang didnt trust him either. The mans ego is too much

The double standard is amazing... if the takes it, he's a wuss... if he defends himself, he's a monster. In today's 2 salary, pro woman workplace, a man is every bit as trpaped as an abused woman, only the men have no support systems or groups to help them
