Waiter Claims Firing Over Jane Adams Twitter

A struggling actor is all a-Twitter claiming his celebrity-sighting Tweets cost him his job.

Jon-Barrett Ingels, 31, says he worked at Barney Greengrass, the cafe on the fifth floor of Barneys New York in Beverly Hills, Calif., and documented his celebrity encounters under the Twitter username, PapaBarrett. Ingels had dished about his on-the-job celeb encounters to his followers, with comments like "Thurs: Tori Spelling eats salami eggs and onions. BTW when did Tori become hot? Also Emilio Estevez looks like his dad," or, "Watched Neil Strauss (The Game) pick up girls and Mindy Kaling talking at a hungover BJ Novak (The Office). My work is not reality!"

But he tells Slashfood that his Twitter of an encounter with actress Jane Adams put an end to that job.

"Tues: Jane Adams, star of HBO series 'Hung' skipped out on a $13.44 check. Her agent called and payed [sic.] the following day. NO TIP!!!" he wrote in his fifth Tweet.

Ingels recounted the experience on his blog, where he explained that Adams allegedly couldn't find her wallet in her purse and asked if she could go to her car and grab it.

"It's not like I wouldn't remember who she was," Ingels said.

Two days later, Ingels said a representative of Adams called one of the restaurant's managers to pay the bill sans tip, prompting his angry Tweet.

"I'm a struggling actor too, and I felt like in that moment she lost the sense that I'm trying to do the same thing that's she's doing," Ingels told Slashfood. "I just became the guy that brought her soup."

At the time, the waiter only had 22 Twitter followers who were "mostly hot young girls that want me to look at their webcams," Ingels blogged. Though Ingels says Adams did return a month later to tip him and apologize, the damage had been done.

Barney's Corporate found his Twitter account, which at the time was listed under his full name, and pushed his manager to fire the waiter of five years over the Twittering after complaints -- despite the fact that he never said where he worked in any of his Tweets.

"I understand they want to keep a safe environment for the celebrities and I think that I broke that safety," Ingels told Slashfood. "Had they come to me and said you need to take this down or change it to private, had I been told if you don't do this, you're going to lose your job -- I would've done that."

The Beverly Hills Barney Greengrass declined to comment to Slashfood, as did Adams' manager.

On Sept. 23, Ingels Tweeted, "Working at the LA Opera today. WooHoo a job!" He later added, "That is all that I'm gonna write about THIS job." Ingels, however, is still unemployed and looking for another full-time job.

Hello and Good luck to this young Wait person.. who cares was my first thought-- a minor class--lesss celeb that looks as if she clearly needed a meal--- and then ran out on it.. WHO CARES about this one hit wonder.. This man however.. did do his job a bit of a gossip queen perhaps.. but it's his right to serve and spill if others wish to share in his day.. he did not use the name of the rest. or get into anything ugly.. just rather simple and funny.. without being hurtfull and now he is fired.. any first year law student would tell you... Sadly you have a case... a good size one at that.. I hate silly law suits-- I always think that persons with good minds and reason can fix anything.. however this is Hollyweird.. so most likely everyone is on=----- something.. so sue.. Get a good lawyer and make your case.. perhaps do something pro-active start a union for waiters, a place where these hard working souls can be heard or perhaps instead of money just demand your job back.. or become a writer... something.. use that mind and make the world laugh.. we sure could use that instead of all the pain and anger we got here... Cheers..

The guy didn't mention the name of the restaurant. I seriously doubt very many people knew where he worked and those people probably couldn't have afforded to eat there anyway. As for not leaving a tip, hey, this guy caused her embarrassment so she's very angry with him ... no fault of his own. My point is, if the waiter can't state facts without getting fired then newspapers and newscasts can't report the facts of the news without getting "fired" by the networks. (And, no, I'm not saying ALL newspapers and newscasts report without bias.)Hmmmmm ... very interesting predicament here huh?

And I'm not talking about the food as the waiter or waitress has no control of that unless its cold, which means they weren't on the ball. Tipping is not mandatory and a tip amount should be based on the level of service. If you don't like it get another job.

Or enjoy the phlem and saliva, sperm here and there, pubic hair and a dash of dandruff on that bread. Aw tsk tsk..yo heinous dawg.

Bon appettit.

Many people don't know this, but US labor laws allow restaurant employers to pay their waitstaff LESS THAN MINIMUM WAGE because they are "expected" to make up the difference in tips. This can be absolutely devastating for those who don't work the prime weekend dinner shifts...and if you DO get lucky enough to work the busy times, you can't really have much of a life outside of that...most especially if you have kids who need supervision on said weekends.

Being a waiter is very difficult work, and the pay sucks.

Come on people, stop being so critical and thinking the worst. This guy was an ass. Have none of you ever forgotten your wallet? It happens. I took my wallet out of my purse the other day to pay for something online. I forgot to put in back and later took my kids out to eat. My wallet was sitting in front of the computer and I didn't realize it until it came time to pay. I came back and paid the bill. Had I asked my husband to do it for me, he most likely would have paid the bill and not thought of the tip. Give people a break. The waiter should not be airing people's business. How would even one of you feel if the same thing happened to you and someone told everyone in your town, school, church etc. Nobody is allowed privacy any more.

I, for one, am ecstatic they are holding people accountable for what they say on Twitter, Facebook and all of the gossip websites. He probably thought saying those things made him look cool to all the 'hot young girls', but actually it just made him unemployed. I have read of impressionable young people who've taken their own lives because of lies posted on the internet. As with most good things, some people will find a way to abuse it. So my friend, you just learned one of Life's many Lessions.

I used to work retail at the mall and I would have to help customer pick out clothes, know if a small would fit a nine y/o girl or run back and forth to the back to find a size for someone...and I NEVER got a tip...and I never complained..I then decided to go back to school so I wouldnt be stuck with a crappy job my whole life..I studied my a$$ off for three years to get a masters degree and now I should spend my hard earned money on someone who gets my order wrong...NO WAY!! I tip based on the service I have received. It is not mandatory and that is for a reason..If everyone got a tip just for putting a plate on a table the quality of service would decline even further
