Roger Moore Takes Aim at Foie Gras

Oh James!

It turns out one of Her Majesty's secret agents lived the high life only in the movies. The James Bond of the 1970s, Roger Moore, won't eat foie gras, and he won't speak to friends who do either.

"Before I knew how it was produced I would often pick at it at parties just because it was on offer -- though I never ate too much of it because of its huge calorific content," he writes Tuesday in an op-ed in the Daily Mail. "Since I have understood the cruelty attached to its production I have never touched it again. I now boycott restaurants where it is served."

"I refuse to speak to old friends who, even when they know how it is produced, are prepared to overlook the suffering for self-gratification," he writes. "My wife Christina feels just the same. No creature deserves to be treated as these birds are for our delectation."

Moore joined forces with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals three years ago to narrate a video about foie gras production. Moore contends the birds are force-fed the human equivalent of 45 pounds of pasta a day to fatten their livers.

Foie gras has long raised eyebrows, with some cities going so far as to ban its sale.

But some chefs aren't swayed by the anti-foie gras campaigns. New York Chef David Chang of Momofuku continues to serve foie gras, and earlier this year he weighed in on Eater about why.

"I can't speak to what happens at all foie gras farms, and I have no doubt there are places that don't have the proper regard for the health of their birds, but me and my guys have been to Hudson Valley Foie Gras. We've seen every last step of the process – and we were humbled by it ... After visiting the farm, we knew that the ducks were being raised in a responsible, respectful manner and that we could serve foie gras in our restaurants with a clean conscience," he wrote.

What do you think? Should James Bond be defending the waterfowl? Let us know in the comments below.

FOI GRAS IS FRENCH FOR FATTY LIVER.LIKE ALL MEAT EATING PEOPLE THIS ALSO HAS A CRUEL ROUTINE BY WHICH A LONG PIPE IS INSERTED INTO THE THE THROAT DOWN THE STOMACH OF THE DUCK. THE DUCK IS OVER FED PURPOSELY TO ENLARGE ITS LIVER TO NEAR EXPLOSION. THE DUCK IS THEN KILLED VISCERATED TO REMOVE THE LIVER THEN EATEN BY THE CONSUMERS HUMAN BEINGS. LESSON ON CRUELTY TO ANIMALS HOW FOOD IS MADE 101

Actually, this is nothing more than Roger Moore's attempt to pimp his restaurants and get people to order the expensive-ass Fois Gras they serve! For his old friends who feel the need to schlep around and eat Fois Gras on the sly, I suggest the ever popular "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy! Personally, I'm in the "we're fixin' to eat it anyway" camp. You can give the ducks pep talks and massages all you like, but their neck is still going on the chopping block.

Isn't it interesting how some people justify their selfish, narcissistic behavior (i.e., eating foie gras) by rationalizing that other people are doing "worse" things to other animals or people? Denial much??? What they are too un-evolved to realize is that the inevitable karmic will pay them a visit when they least expect it. They won't "get it" til it physically happens to them and they feel the same pain. And they will.

What about chickens raised in small cages stacked sky high, or pigs and cows living a miserable life in cramped quarters until the day they're led to slaughter. It's all horrible and yet we turn a blind eye toward all this. The reverence with which we treat our cats and dogs is so out of proportion to the way we treat other animals.

Yes it is alive. My appendix is alive, but it is not a LIFE. There is a BIG difference between being living tissue and being a life. Until it has a fully functioning brain it CAN'T be a human being, only a potential one. A living breathing human being takes precedence over a potential one every time. Thank goodness god has more sense than you moronic imbeciles. Get it through your idiotic heads....No brain = no humanity = no soul = no life.

A final note. The third trimester abortions you idiots like to harp on are not "On demand". They have to be performed in a hospital and deemed medically necessary by more than one doctor. Very few women would ever choose to carry a fetus that long and randomly decide to end it. Just like no Doctor would perform the procedure unless he felt it was necessary and not on a patient's whim.

I hope the investigations of Hudson Valley is passed on to David Chang, and anyone else who buys from that terrible place.

Clean conscience, whatever!
