A Charleston, S.C., teen says he was given a loaded handgun and bags of marijuana in his McDonald's drive-thru order, WCSC-TV reports. The 18-year-old and his cousin received the .45-caliber handgun and the pot on Aug. 29 at a McDonald's on Savannah Highway.
"The gun and the marijuana was inside of a brown bag sitting inside of a McDonald's bag," said Kathy Rivera, the mother of the teen. "And they noticed they had three bags, and there were only two people in the car, so when he opened it, he noticed it."
The gun and drugs were meant for the car behind theirs in the drive-thru line, police said. The car followed the young men to a gas station, where one man approached the teen and demanded he give them the McDonald's bags, which the teen did. He told his mother about the incident the next day, and she contacted the restaurant.
A police report was filed. Charleston police tell Slashfood they're still investigating, though no arrests have been made.

It's bad enough that they're doing that through the drive-thru but how stupid is the person to give it to the wrong car? You really have to be a complete moron to hand a gun and weed to the wrong people. And to Amy I totally agree with you, this kid opens the bag and sees the gun and the weed, then what? Does he just throw it on the back seat like it's no big deal? If he ran home and told his mommy then I'm gonna assume he probably isn't around guns and drugs too often, so wouldn't you think he'd immediately freak out and call the cops? Something is a little odd with this story. Maybe he didn't like the kid in the drive -thru and made it up to start trouble or something. Sounds too strange to really be true. I know if I was going to sell or give out a gun and weed to someone while I was at work I would at least run outside to the person's car, not pass it through the drive-thru window that's insane. Also if the kid gave the bag to the guy it was meant for, how do they know it's a .45 caliber gun? I doubt any kid that can look in a bag and tell what type of gun it is just like that would go home and tell mommy about it. The kid was probably driving around with a gun and a bag on him and probably got jacked for his $h!t, you can't report that to the cops if you're riding around with that on you so you probably make up a ridiculous story just so the guy gets caught with it and it don't come back to you. That sounds a little more realistic.

9-14-2009 @3:11PM oliver said... this is waaayyy shady. Do you know how much a .45 weighs? about the same as 40 big macs. the person handing it out the drive thru window would have noticed it for sure. (obviously the person handing it out the window was not the dealer or else he would have seen that it was no the right car)
And yeah, I've gotten stuff at the drive thru I haven't ordered. Once I got an order of large french fries when I didn't order any fries. Crazy. And napkins, I never order those and they put them in almost every time. I mean, wtf??

He probably fought all night long with his mind as to how to handle the problem. I'm not willing to accuse the kid without some real facts. I do understand a child being scared and not stepping up right away. I also understand taking time to think through a problem before it is dealt with.
