The Boston Globe reports Tuesday that the doyenne of French cuisine's Cambridge home is now occupied by a vegetarian animal-rights activist, who -- since the release of "Julie and Julia" -- has been besieged by tourists snapping photos of her home and leaving butter, yes butter, on the fence post.
"It's a bit ironic," Lisa Landsverk said of her place at Julia's kitchen.
Of course, true fans of Julia Child know that the kitchen Landsverk now occupies is just a shadow of the French Chef's. Child donated everything from her Cambridge kitchen to the Smithsonian, where it's on display at the National Museum of American History.
The reason for the Globe's visit was to cajole Landsverk and her family to cook up some of Child's recipes from "Mastering the Art of French Cooking Vol. 1." The family isn't big on being foodie; typical fare is "pasta, burritos, reservations," the paper said.
The new owner had only stipulation for cooking Child: Everything had to be vegan.
So much for using that butter on the fence post.
