In April, the Green State became the fourth in the nation to allow gays and lesbians to marry.
"From the very beginning of our 30 year history, we have supported equal rights for all people," Walt Freese, Ben & Jerry's CEO, said in a statement. "The legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction and something worth celebrating with peace, love and plenty of ice cream."
But the move by Ben & Jerry's is largely a symbolic one. There are no plans to produce pints of ice cream with the Hubby Hubby label.
Sean Greenwood, a spokesman for the company, told the Boston Herald it takes 18 months to revise a product label.
Hubby Hubby sundaes, though, will be sold at Vermont Ben & Jerry's all month long.

That being said, while I personally support the cause, I don't think it's a good idea to post your political views on anything having to do with your business, and I don't blame all those hateful gay bashers for not wanting to buy their products. I intentionally avoid companies that support things I don't believe in, such as a carpet cleaning ad with a jesus fish on it. Sorry, I might need my carpet cleaned in the worst way, but I am not supporting a company that is openly christian. I don't care if my carpet cleaner is christian, I just don't need them to tell me in their ad. This is the same thing. By posting political/social views on products that have nothing to do with the issues, you are only alienating the groups of people who don't believe the same things you do.
So while I would buy Ben and Jerry's because I am a strong supporter of the cause, if I was a closed minded, angry, hateful, mean, nasty christian, I would not.

That is not what I said, at all. First of all, I said nothing about hate. Second, Islam was simply an example of one of many non-Christian religions that do not approve of homosexuality. Do not paint me as a bigot, it is the furthest thing from the truth.

That is just nasty to the max that they would promote that lifestyle with icecream. I am sick of liberals trying to make something that is wrong, and should still be seen as wrong, as ok. It's not ok. It is not right. Quit ramming that crap down my throat."
SERIOUSLY!!! Did a representative from Ben & Jerry's come to your home and force you to eat this ice cream? Nobody is shoving anything down your throat or anybody’s for that matter. If you people want to be closed minded then fine, that is you right, don't buy the ice cream. Just like it's ANYONES right to live there life with someone they love, regardless of sex or race. So please stop making ridiculous comments like this stuff is being shoved down your throats, all you have to do is change the channel or stop purchasing what ever offends you so much. Besides the only shoving I have seen is people like you shoving your religious beliefs down other people throats. They aren't asking you to partake or even like it. I'm a women married to a wonderful man but that shouldn't mean my friend can't get married to her girlfreind. They just want the same rights as everyone else. If that means we'll all burn in hell then I'll bring the hot dogs.....

so maybe steveoughta shut up.

I am not going to cast any judgement on anyone's sexual preferences here as I don't care what you do IN PRIVATE but keep it to yourselves and don't expect everyone to condone your gay/lez lifestyle. BUT the point here is that Ben & Jerry's inc. is committing political suicide by promoting such a controversial topic. Bottom line: Those opposing this stupid move no longer support Ben & Jerry's products. Thus leaving Ben & Jer less $ for political contributions. Maybe in the future they'll leave the politics out of their biz.

9-02-2009 @4:38PM Dan said... Your view point is one that concerns me more than any other. You are not perhaps too personally invested in this issue; you are a heterosexual, spouse, and parent. Yet you argue passionately for the "equal" rights of homosexuals to "marry." Your argument hinges on the question of "why not" You don't see any reason why not. But I pose a question to you. Why should ANYONE receive the lawful benefits of marriage? Why does society (almost) universally throughout history, throughout the world provide a special place for the relationship between a man and woman commonly known as "marriage?" Why should that relationship have any difference, for instance, with that of two best friends who are not romantic but who love each other and decide to live together in a financial partnership? If you have not realized what is very special about your own marriage, here is a potentially (if you grasp the true gravity) life changing revelation. You and your spouse together have brought forth children. I'm not trying to belittle you by stating the obvious, rather, I hope you see your everyday life in a whole new light. It is through the act of proCREATION that the human race is perpetuated, that we may all continue living, loving, laughing, and crying in this incredible, wonderful world. Marriage, when defined as the union of a man and woman for the purpose of procreation, is the most fundamental human social unit. The integrity of our entire civilization depends on this building block. Family Itself, in fact, flows from this union. Furthermore, we depend on parents to rear and educate their children. No other institution can ever provide the love that a child needs. Humanity needs successful marriages. You see, we don't have to make it a religious or moral issue in order to see the Truth. We don't have to condemn gays. We don't have to fear. But we can't let an aversion to authority (most people don't like someone else telling them what to do) cause us to "tolerate" the collapse of something vital to our very survival as a race (that's the Human race - marriage transcends even all ethnic divisions). You might say that giving benefits to a different definition of marriage won't take away from the current definition. But if any others (and the definition of marriage will become looser and looser in this country, as has already begun, until it is merely a financial contract between two or even more people) can get the same benefits, how would they be special? Or a benefit at all? Look at us already! Divorce! Divorce!! Divorce!!! We need to turn this trend around, by doing everything we can to help couples know that their marriage has a special place in our community of human beings. We need to give them the benefits of a UNIQUE position in our human family. Let's start strengthening couples for the hard job that faces them with more and better benefits for THEM. Let's give them an edge! For the CHILDREN. Thank you for having an open mind enough to read my long winded essay. Please have an open heart as well. I certainly do as do many, many others who have great sympathy for those that experience hatred, but truly feel that changing our definition of marriage is not the solution to intolerance. God Bless you all. Pax Christi.

Crazy world: your request to "divide and conquer" in combination with mistaken facts about the majority of world religions opposing homosexuality made it sound as if you were arguing on behalf of the bible-beaters who've invaded this forum. I find it quite curious that a person who portrays themself as being open minded to other ideas, such as same sex marriage, would assume anything about anyone, according to any belief... Seems a bit of a double standard to me. My beliefs belong to me, I share them when, and if I choose to...

Can't they just do their jobs and sell ice cream, without dragging their personal views into everything??
Sigh...too bad....the ice cream's good, too.

A house divided surely will not stand...People need to stop ripping each other to shreads like a bunch of animals, and start putting their heads together in a productive way. Otherwise, do not be surprised if you find yourself living in a country run by the likes of Hiro Hito, Stalin, or Hitler...

Canada, South Africa, and most of Western Europe, for example. Gay marriage is banned in most African and Asian countries, and yes, simply being gay can get you executed in some of them.
Ed: it wasn't Sarah who turned into a pillar of salt, but Lot's wife, but you still had some good thoughts otherwise.
As for the ice cream; I don't think I've ever eaten any by Ben&Jerry, so I really don't care what they put on the tubs. But if they already create a flavor for gay men, they need to create one for lesbians too, otherwise it's not fair. Just what could that flavor be named? "Fluff-Diver"?

Does anyone out there abide by His laws anymore? Does anyone out there realize that homosexuality is a sin? Sorry folks. I won't be supporting any company that sanctions same-sex relationships, let alone same-sex marriage. I'm a born-again-washed-in-the-blood-saved-by-Christ-bound-for-Heaven Christian and I intend to stay that way. If I have to give up Ben and Jerry's, so be it. I know that someone out there will probably call me all sorts of ill names and use all sorts of language against me, but, that's fine. Christ was persecuted for me, I'll be presecuted for Him. Have a blessed day!
