Lobsters and Strainers - Tip of the Day

Steaming a wriggly, live lobster is one pot and one colander away.

We've watched Amy Adams freak out as she tries to cook lobsters in "Julie & Julia" -- her fearful squealing is enough to keep any newbie from ever tackling those wriggling red claws. Luckily, it's is a lot easier than Julie would have you think.

As the video above instructs, a perfectly steamed lobster (rather than a water-logged boiled one) is as simple as throwing an upside-down, heat-proof strainer in a pot with an inch of water, placing the sea creatures on top, and steaming them for approximately 15-20 minutes.

Just make sure that strainer isn't plastic -- while butter is a tasty addition to the crustacean's white flesh, plastique is most definitely not.
