Simply fill up a few bags with water -- add a second zippered bag if you wish -- and lay them flat in the freezer until solid. They fit perfectly inside a cooler bag, allow all of the food inside to keep cool, and won't leave you with a questionable gel film on your food if the bag happens to rupture. Plus, once their insides melt, you can even reuse the bags for bringing extra food home.
