Zipper-Lock Ice Bags - Tip of the Day

Instead of grabbing that blue-gelled cold pack for your little cooler, make some all-natural ice packs.

It might be handy to slip one of those gelled ice packs into your cooler bag when trying to keep a few things cold on a trip: They're flat, chilly and don't take up a lot of room. But let's face it -- no one wants the possibility of sticky gel on or near their food. The simple solution -- that allows for top-to-bottom coolness without wasting space -- are zipper-locked ice packs.

Simply fill up a few bags with water -- add a second zippered bag if you wish -- and lay them flat in the freezer until solid. They fit perfectly inside a cooler bag, allow all of the food inside to keep cool, and won't leave you with a questionable gel film on your food if the bag happens to rupture. Plus, once their insides melt, you can even reuse the bags for bringing extra food home.
