The Food Network has given Jeffrey Saad, the runner-up of this season's "The Next Food Network Star," a second chance on a slightly smaller screen. The network is airing a handful of Saad's "Spice Smuggler" show as Web shorts on FoodNetwork.com.
Along with Saad's "Ingredient Smuggler" pilot taped for "The Next Food Network Star," the site is featuring four "Spice Smuggler" shorts. In them, the real-estate agent and trained chef makes 5 Spice Stir-Fry Chicken Soup, Smoked Paprika Lasagna, Garam Masala Chicken Pot Pie and Tilapia Tacos with Anise Seed. Of course, for his pilot, he went crazy with harissa, doing his take on a steak sandwich.
"He may not have been declared the winner of 'The Next Food Network Star,' but Jeffrey won the hearts of a huge number of viewers," said Bob Tuschman, Food Network's senior vice president of programming, said in a statement issued by the network. "His food undoubtedly had a spicy elegance to it; one that I think will appeal to a broad range of chefs who love to experiment with unique ingredients and spice up their dishes."

Throughout the series, I really liked Jeffrey and Melissa - Melissa for her helpful hints (which were absent, for the most part, in the first episode of her new show, and Jeffrey for his widening my interest in spices. I think Jeffrey should be elevated to having his own show on the real Food Netword.

A winning Food Network Star gets a kind of "probationary period" of six shows---if those shows don't generate ratings, than the new star is retired. Although I think Melissa is a nice person, I watched her first show and would never watch it again--I do not think she will attract enough of an audience to become a staple with the food group.

I like Melissa, but Jeffrey's use of different spices appeals to me...just watched his video for smoked paprika lasagna...my mouth was watering...it looked sooo good! I swear I could smell it through the screen! I can't wait to try it!

They have different styles to share with an audience, and I will watch both happily. PS. It was so refreshing to see them compete with no 'back biting and nastiness'....entertaining, for sure.
A great decision, Bob!!

I am glad Melissa won because most of us who prepare dinner on a regular basis can benefit from her easy to understand and delicious recipes. I have tried them and they are great! I will be watching.

I live 3 hours from a large city, that's a long way to travel to then find a market that sells the spice he is using. The internet may be a solution, if he would reference reliable sites to use. Then it would be, can most people afford the spice? In this economy, I wondered just how well his show would go over. I feel at this time the web-show is the best for him. I'm sure we well see him on the television again though, just under a different concept.

High pitched whine of a voice and the meal was horrible. Jeffery offered alternative spices to just salt and pepper; and Aaron, who has the BEST show on Food Network, at the worse day and time makes everything you'd want to eat and serve your family.
Sorry, but Mellisa just doesn't cut the mustard, she'll never mature and develop like Aaron has done! Jeffery had it all to begin with and needs to have his own show.
Drop a lot of the old timers that have seen better days and give Jeffery a show. Paula can go as well as the Barefoot one and goodness half the others that are just old and lame.

He seemed genuine. I liked him from the start. I told my husband Foodnetwork would be foolish not to sponsor him another chance like the other fella who works for food. Jeffrey won't disappear, he's got talent and I will definately watch his show!!

I wish they would have given him his own TV show. I rooted for him to the end and his meals are easy and he looks great on camera. We need the equivalent of the male chef in the media.

(Spices are readily available online) Melissa is not my type of food. Too bland. I want to learn NEW things from a cooking show. (In Italy I learned you can even put whole garlic cloves in a white sauce to flavor it - then fish them out).

It actually apalls me that so many actually find them amusing. It shows me that there are more mouth breathing peeping toms out there than our society actually should, hence the state of our nation.

I liked them. I would love to see Michael get a show. He was original, entertaining, apparently a good chef, and refreshing.

Why doesn't he just throw her down on the countertop and get it over with already? Rachael Ray is another. I'm so sick, sick, sick of her cutesy phrases and annoying giggle. Time for some real talent.

I regret that the girl from California that won previously chose not to do it when the runner-up Rory was I thought better. Wish they would have offered Rory something when the winner bailed. What an opportunity wasted! Will be interested to watch Jeffrey.
