PETA Unhappy Meals Targeting Kids

Kids hoping to grab a Happy Meal from McDonald's might end up with PETA's Unhappy Meal instead.

The animal rights organization lifted its moratorium on the McCruelty Campaign this year and since June has distributed Chicken McCruelty Unhappy Meals to McDonald's customers outside about a dozen restaurants around the country.

"McDonald's markets its food to children by packaging it in brightly colored boxes with toys," Lindsay Rajt, a spokeswoman for PETA, tells Slashfood. "But most kids really love animals, and if they knew that McDonald's suppliers were breaking the wings and legs of gentle animals like chickens, I think that you'd have to drag kids into McDonald's kicking and screaming."

The campaign, though, has parents "hatin' it."

A PETA protest of a McDonald's in Albany, N.Y., upset parents on Thursday, WXXA-TV reports.

"I don't want my son to be around something like this," parent Stephanie Gipson told the station. "This is not fair for a child."

But Rajt says children have seen worse things than PETA's Unhappy Meal, which comes "stained with blood" and containing a bloody rubber chicken, a cutout of a knife-wielding Ronald McDonald, photos of mutilated animals and a Chicken McCruelty T-shirt.

"Kids deserve to be told the truth and we really do need to give them credit," she says. "The bottom line is that they've really seen much worse in movies and videogames, and we all know that kids empathize with animals."

McDonald's told Slashfood that it expects the humane treatment of animals from its suppliers.

Our goal has always been to lead the industry by bringing about improvements in animal welfare including rigorous, ongoing audits of our suppliers' facilities.

"McDonald's works with leading independent animal welfare experts and makes decisions based upon science to promote continuous improvement in animal welfare as part of our broader sustainable supply chain initiatives," Bob Langert, McDonald's vice president of corporate social responsibility, says in a statement to Slashfood.

"McDonald's continues to support our chicken suppliers' use of both controlled atmosphere stunning (CAS) and electrical stunning. There is no conclusive scientific consensus that one practice is better than the other, however, we recognize that in either method, good management practices are critical," he says. "It is also important to note that in the U.S., there are no large-scale chicken producers that currently use the CAS method, therefore demands to purchase chickens from this method to meet McDonald's supply needs are not viable."

PETA says it worked with McDonald's behind the scenes from 2000 to February 2009 before it re-instituted its McCruelty campaign. A PETA protest was expected Friday afternoon at a restaurant in South Burlington, Vt.

Now let's imagine a room full of headless chickens running around. HMMMM!!! I've raised my son according to the bible. The bible says it's ok to eat cows and chickens (not going to quote it). What rite does PETA have to tell my son differently let alone scare him? Forget the chickens rites, what about mine and my sons?

All they really care about is spreading hype and they think that tramatizing kids and adults will do just that. When are these guys going to realize that we'll just ignore whatever they say and keep eating? Dont get me wrong I have a friend that's a vegetarian, but these guys take it way too far. If they think anyone is ever going to take them seriously, they got another thing coming.

Hmmm...obviously the public needs to see sample videos of these chickens being processed to make a rational judgement. How about it McDonalds? Show us the methods your suppliers use via a video---also, why doesn't PETA request a video? We need more than words, please. Awaiting a response from Mc and PETA on this blog. 8/7/2009

I highly doubt that this organization really cares about the treatment of animals if they have no reservation about tormenting children.

The FBI really needs to add this organization to its list of known terrorist organizations. People of PETA.... if you don't want to be accused of being a terrorist, don't act like one!

That sums up all that is wrong with you PETA lunatics. Animals are more important than people? You compare eating chicken to eating a child?? You are nuts and one of the reasons people despise PETA and freaks like you.

If I showed my children these things that PETA are, I would be hauled off to jail and labeled a child abuser for abusing my children mentally. Using this kind of tactic on children is outright mental abuse and it needs to be elevated to the proper authorities and stopped immediately. So I guess PETA is saying that for every abused animal, they need to mentally abuse a child. I don't see the logic. You aren't doing yourself any favors PETA. You are hurting your image and abusing children mentally to get your point across. Not good for your cause. Is the mental abuse on children worth it?

The fact that 85% of amercian's eat chicken and cow weekly, MEANS NOTHING.
The only thing worse then eating this merdered garbage, is the fact that the public has someone else do it for them !

The future in america will be non meat eating: who do i know, well i can't tell
u it is a secret. Not all but a vast majority will in this century.

Reality Check

8-07-2009 @2:38PM Reality Check said... OK PETA, I get it. You have an opinion that you feel very strongly about...I get it. However, as a Mom, I can not disagree more with your tactics. I try diligently, each and every day, to shield my Daughter from the violence in this world so that she can simply be a child. Remember childhood PETA?? That was the time in your life where you got to be innocent. That was the time when you got to believe that all people were good. That was the time when you got to think that the coolest people in the world were the ones that loved you no matter what. Why on earth would you want to take innocence away from a child?? Wait until these kids are adults and can make up their own mind about whether or not they agree with your organization. How dare you think you have the right to impose your beliefs on them prior to that. I have questioned the tactics of PETA in the past... and certainly not agreed with most of what they have chosen to do. This officially crosses the line ~ not only have you lost my support now, but you have lost my support for the duration. You should be ashamed of yourselves! (Though sadly, I know that you won't be and your antics will continue)

Perhaps the PETA folks are a bit out of line on the extreme scare tactics, but what surprises me more is that it's really a concern. I mean, my child won't be subjected to this mess because I opt not to feed him nutritionally-void fast food crap whenever possible.

The chicken my son is most familiar with comes off of the backyard grill. The fries, right out of our oven. He still eats food that's similar to that which other kids eat, but I've got much more control over what's gone into it.

But then again, my son doesn't play videogames where points are earned for murdering people either...

You are disgusting, pieces of filth that no one in their right mind would EVER have anything to do with. Your gestapo tactics are reprehensible, but standard fare for the likes of you. You justify your sick "McCruelty campaign" attack on our children (I truly hope you burn in hell for this one) by saying that "it's o.k., they have seen worse", which in your warped world makes it all o.k. to scare and twist the minds of these innocent little people. Let me say this as clearly as I can, you sick f***'s...if I ever came across a pack of you weirdos and you attempted to approach MY child with your "campaign", I would without hesitation, show you the true meaning of cruel and unusual suffering from the business end of a ball bat, and would not stop until YOU were a bloody hunk of smoldering meat.
Have a nice day, you sick bastards; I hope you get a rare, incurable disease, that is excruciatingly painful, and takes at least a year to kill your sorry ass. Anyone who would target children to further their own cause, deserves nothing less.
Here is a final news flash: IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO EAT A CHICKEN, FINE...THAT IS YOUR BUSINESS. HOWEVER, IT IS NOT YOUR BUSINESS TO MAKE THE DECISION WHETHER OR NOT I SHOULD. I'm all for the rights of animals to a certain extent, but damn...you maggots must live on another planet or are possessed...by the way, did I mention that I want you all to burn in hell?
To everyone who reads my post, I apologize for my aggressiveness and colorful language, but this really PISSED ME OFF.

Kids and adults need to eat meat, that's why we have developed our brains, because of animal protein. Vegetarians are often anemic, and suffer from bipolar disorder. they are also most likly to have difficulties getting pregnant, and have a higher chance of developing demencia. I thought PETA was against fur. now they are against chicken too? funny, a lot of their spokespersons are cocaine users, some with arrests records, rehab, etc.

Humans have been eating meat as well as vegatables, but honestly are you gonna tell a shark not to eat other fish because its another animal? thats basically what PETA is saying. they want to vegatize the world, and there will always be meat eaters, and really when early humans were on the earth they hunted for meat, are you gonna go back in time PETA? no. Stop being a terrorist its pretty annoying.

Granted animals can be a lot nicer than people, but still. There are lots of animal rights groups out there who do not resort to law-breaking tactics, who do not try to frighten small children, and who do not end up with enormous lawsuits against them and their practices. I'll support them, but there's no way I would ever support PETA.

This weekend in New Jersey there was lice incidence in the Showboat casino. There are pictures and evidence but they deny these claims as they have done in the past with others and have left people's health in jeopardy.

Working in activism for many years to support causes I am asking that your organization call Harrah's headquarters in Las Vegas and ask them to have maids and floor workers check sheets to protect
citizens and be open about public incidence in terms of public health.

(Please forward to other organizations, family and friends.) It could be your friends, relatives, sisters, mothers, or others health at risk, if policies are not changed. Thank you,

TSEL health Advisory Alert.

Contact Harrah's headquarters at:
702 407-6000 (If line is busy)

Contact 1-800-4 reward ask for showboat information to talk to risk management or hotel manager.

Lice carry many diseases and deniability could lead to death. Please tell Harrah's to correct this deniability
clause. Tell them to have staff check sheets and blankets to protect public health. Ask other hotels
you stay at as well what their policy is on insect infestation. It could save your life!

Our soldiers get killed and I'm sure you don't give a $hit, but heaven forbit a chicken gets it's head cut off. It must resemble the PETA fools after that the chicken has no head and yours are shoved up your a$$es. I'm sure the protesting losers all have leather shoes on too. Get a life. They must not have children, so they go animal crazy.
