Library-Themed Ben & Jerry's Coming to a Freezer Near You?

Ben & Jerry's seems to be tops among many ice-cream eaters, but the feeling is particularly strong among the library-going set.

How else to explain the thousands strong Facebook lobby "People for a library-themed Ben & Jerry's flavor!"?

Created by New Jersey resident Andy Woodworth, the group wants a "tasty awesome" flavor that honors libraries.

"The Logic Behind This: (1) Libraries are awesome; (2) Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream is tasty; therefore: (3) A library-themed Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream would be tasty awesome," the site says. "Let's make it happen!"

Suggestions include "Li-Berry Pie," a blend of lime sherbet with raspberry sauce and pie crust crumbles; "Sh-sh-sh-Sherbet!" a Key lime or chocolate and vanilla combo; and the "Gooey Decimal System," dark fudge alphabet letters with caramel swirls in hazelnut ice cream.

Woodworth is also Twittering the movement. To suggest a flavor to Ben & Jerry's, click here, and be sure to share it with us in the comments below.

What do you think of honoring libraries through ice cream?

Of course, Linda at the end also goes into partisan bashing of a politician (I won't say which one since I am VERY non partisan when it comes to pointing out such knee jerk one tracked mind thinking) so she loses MANY points with me right there.

Will I click on her URL's? No. I never read URL's posted by a zealot. Unless I see her claims posted on a site I TRUST, not one provided by a slobbering zealot, I refuse to read it or believe it.

Feel free to insult or flame me Linda, you'll only prove my points here. Especially if you go into a multi-post tirade of zealotry and insanity spamming.

To be on topic, I ENJOY their ice cream. I also could care less which politician they supported, IF they supported anyone. I can HANDLE someone else disagreeing with me politically, and if they agree with me politically I still will judge ONLY by the quality of the product and my needs for said product. If people just can't do otherwise, oh well. Enjoy being simple minded.

Upon my research there is evidence of foul play in this case, and a few very significant people have supported this. Let's forget about Ben & Jerry, Susan Surandon, and any other famous name of that ilk, and let's concentrate on the people whom are famous for world changing events. 22 members of the British parliament have supported Mumia as has Nelson Mandela. Now these are not people to throw aroung their support, especially Mandela. I do not know all of the facts, and have only recently been introduced to this story, but I do know that it seems there is enough conflicting evidence to support a new trial. I mean another man has confessed to the murder! How can that not at least confirm the need for a new trial. He might be found guilty again, or maybe not, but seriously with the type of conflicting evidence that is out there, it seems that the only fair thing is to take this case back into open court. For everyone who thinks he is guilty this should be nothing to worry about and would finally end the ability to appeal incessantly, and for his supporters it would give them the chance to present the evidence they believe is needed. Considering the alternative is constant appeals expending major sums of taxpayer money, I do not see why this is a bad idea. Just my two cents, but on another note, you people yelling at each other over this and belittling each other seems to only further a dynamic of hate that already runs too deep in our society. Emotions can understandably run deep, and in this case I imagine they run amazingly deep, but no one in this thread is directly involved with the case, and our bylaws respect the right to free speech. You would be surprised how much better you can get your point across when you approach everything calmly instead of TEXT shouting at everyone. Open debates are good and healthy and can bring about change, violence and arguing typically only bring about each other.

I understand wanting to inform people about issues that are important to you, but linking them to a terribly biased article about the subject is barely going to convince anyone of anything.

Try to see things from both angles before jumping down people's throats when they disagree with you.

The cheap half gallon ice cream in stores are not custard-based, they're basically milk and cream and sugar (plus flavoring) and air. You get what you pay for when it comes to ice cream quality, and Ben and Jerry's is NOT on the same level as Blue Bunny or whatever cheap stuff you're trying to compare it to.

I'm gonna throw this out there. Perhaps Ben Cohen supports Mumia not because he is a cop killer, but rather because he doesn't believe Mumia killed any cops. Just a theory.

than I should! I'm Lactose Intolerant and
can't seem to watch anyone eat ice cream in front of me! It's rude first of all w/o offering it tome! And second of all it looks so darn good that all I will do is drool, by just glancing over at you and your ice cream! My absolute favorite flavor is Butter Pecan or Butter Crunch, but I end up giving most of it away, b/c I will get terrible stomach aches. Peace out, Willow17

My reply: Yes, but this is a private blog. This isn't a state ran message board. The moderators can ban users, erase posts and edit them. The only limits are the will of the moderators, and whatever tools are provided by the software.

Anyway, if you wish to respect the right to free speach, I have the right to be less then civil to someone I find to be a zealot and very partisan. Is it polite? No, I admit I flamed her. And although I suppose one could say I should have taken the high road and been more civil, she did set the tone, she went into a tirade when someone else disputed her claims, albeit with a harsh tone also.

So anyway, with all due respect please don't try to play amateur moderator. If you feel my post, her post or any post breaks the rules of this blog, they have a report button, the exclimation mark next to the star rating system to do so. And don't try to rally behind free speach on a private ran internet blog.

Consider this...the blog's server might be in the USA. But if a Canadian or German or someone from any other nation were to post here, should they be able to claim free speach? If you were banned from posting here, and the moderator simply told you he did it because he could, would you then try to claim free speach? If so, especially in the second case you just don't comprehend how this is a private blog.

Ben Cohen does not own Ben & Jerry's any longer. He and Jerry *sold* the company nine years ago. He sits on an advisory board.

There is a difference between a company giving money and a private individual.
