Whenever Julia would come on television my family would surround me and call me Julia. I grew up watching her and thinking how great it was that she was able to become great in a predominately male driven profession. Although women were seen as cooks of the home, not many dared to make a go of it as a profession. No matter if I win the tickets or not, I want to give homage to a great woman and to say that she is sorely missed.

When we were married 38 years ago, my husband-to-be's next door neighbor gave us a Swing Way can opener and a copy of The French Chef. I have been using both all these years, but the French Chef has many more miles on it. I was 19, had never cooked and knew back then, in a very un-feminist way, that the way to a man's heart was through his stomach. It worked! I love this book and always will.

with all her passion, fun, stoicism, and flaws. Even as a young girl, I would watch her and enjoy her
presentations although I didn't know anything about cooking yet. Elaine Criscione

I remember my mother making me a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup with milk in it and allowing me to sit in front of the television and watch Julia Child cook. I remember thinking that her voice was very much like my great-grandmothers and that, even though I didn't know her, she made me feel like I was welcome to learn all I could. I also remember that, even though I was eating as I watched, her cooking made me hungry!
I started cooking at the age of 11 and have been an avid cook, ever since.
