Romaine Lettuce Recalled for Salmonella

A California lettuce producer has recalled bulk and wrapped romaine lettuce after a batch tested positive for salmonella.

Tanimura & Antle, Inc. of Salinas, Calif., issued the recall for its Tanimura & Angle wrapped single whole-head romaine lettuce, banded single whole-head romaine lettuce and naked (unwrapped) single whole-head romaine on July 21. The nationwide recall applies to lettuce purchased before July 23.

The move comes after the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture tested positive for salmonella. No illnesses have been reported. The lettuce affected by the recall was harvested between June 25 and July 2, and should be past its shelf life, company officials said.

Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include diarrhea and abdominal pain. Anyone with questions about the romaine recall should call Tanimura & Antle at 877-827-7388.

It's not foolproof, but it seems to me less likely to be contaminated by mega-farm dirty practices along the way. It also saves the energy costs involved with transporting food across the country. The really best thing is to grow your own, which is difficult for a lot of us apartment dwellers.

WE,,,,however are like the boy in the plastic bubble. Anything we encounter can kill us because we have no immunities built up. They need to quit obsessing on these things. They're going to kill us all.

I've been handling green and lettuce shipments for nearly a decade, and Tanimura & Antle has always delivered some of the freshest, cleanest, most well packaged produce in CA. I could name over a dozen so-Cal produce companies that reliably deliver dirt or mud filled floppy under weight produce(especially lettuce.)

There are people from all over the world who come to that area for vacations to see the beauty and historical things. Salmonella and ecoli are things that are EVERYWHERE. No other nations get sick from those common bacteria. They're considered natural. If they don't stop sterilizing our entire lives they're gonna kill us.

Is anyone keeping track of the number of fruits and vegatables, being recalled for making Americans sick, with salmonella or the crap from China that can effect children, falty tires, dry wall and plastics. A simple solution. Don't buy from, made in, a product of, packaged in, manufacture in China. Get the dirty illegal criminal mexicans out or tell them people here wash their hand ! maybe Obama can pass legislation to stop the contamination of our foods. He is going too fix all else !
