Easy Homemade Breadcrumbs - Tip of the Day

With a bit of advance planning, there's really no reason to ever buy breadcrumbs at the grocery store.

If there is one thing that is ridiculously easy and worthy of extra time in the kitchen, it's homemade breadcrumbs. All it takes is some bread that's gone to the bad side of stale and a food processor or other device to get things crumby.

Think about the delicious styles you eat over the course of a week and how that flavor can boost other breaded foods -- sourdoughs, garlic and herbs, and even a rich multigrain. If the end of the loaf is always gone before it's stale, save a slice or two to harden and crumble. Mix them up with previous batches, or store a whole selection in a zipper-lock bag in the freezer for future cooking needs.
