Is there anything more happy than a kumquat? Aside from, of course, a kumquat eater? These winsome little things, snapped by clayirving and dropped into the Slashfood Flickr pool, are the food world equivalent of a box of kittens or a giggling baby. They look as sweet on the outside as they are on the inside; you want to pinch their little cheeks. And then pop them into your mouth, one after the other, until the box is empty.

This used to be a feature that was actually visually appealing, with interesting compositions and unique items. You may want to calibrate your monitor. There are plenty of pictures in the pool that are better than what's been put up for the last month or so.
At least it's not a picture of a picture of gumdrops.

I think the dessert book was edited by Ann Kay.
And there was this Rich Chocolate Mousse recipe that had Glazed Liqueur Kumquats that I wanted to try.
(We have a few Kumquat Trees that was given to us as a gift from a Horticulturist friend a few years ago.)
Here is the recipe:
Serves 6
225g/8oz plain (semisweet) chocolate, broken into squares
4 eggs, separated
30ml/2tbsp orange-flavored liqueur
90ml/6tbsp double (heavy) cream
Glazed kumquats
275g/ 10oz / 2 3\4 cups kumquats
115g /4oz / generous 1\2 granulated sugar
150ml 1\4 pint 2\3 cup water
15ml / 1 tbsp orange-flavored liqueur
1)Cut kumquats in half and place cut side up in a shallow serving dish.
2)Place sugar in a small pan with water, heat gently and stir constantly until sugar dissolved, then bring to a boil without stirring, until a golden brown caramel forms.
3)Remove the pan from the heat and carefully stir in 4 tbsp boiling water. Stir in orange-flavored liqueur, then pour the caramel sauce over the kumquat slices and let cool. Once cool, cover, and chill.
4)Line shallow round cake tin pan with clear plastic wrap. Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a pan of barely simmering water, and then remove the bowl from the heat.
5)Beat the eggs yolks and liqueur into the chocolate, and then gently fold in the cream. In a separate mixing bowl whisk the egg whites until stiff, then gently fold them into the chocolate mixture. Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and level the surface. Chill for several hours until set.
6)Turn the mouse out on to a plate and cut into slices and serve with glazed kumquats.
Enjoy, hope you all try it. Have a good day. : )
