
Brown sugar pops up in a lot of recipes, but it can be quite a pain to keep on-hand, what with all the hardening and tricks needed to keep it soft and pliable. Luckily, there are alternatives. You could opt for a different flavor for your dish and use another sugar, like the tried and true white granulated. Or, you could do something even better -- make your own.
As Martha Stewart explains, you can make your own brown sugar by combining 1 cup of granulated sugar with a 1/4 cup of molasses. That's it!
