Alton Brown's One-Step Greasing and Flouring - Tip of the Day

When baking, lots of recipes require a greased and floured pan. Luckily, there's a time-saver.


Alton BrownRather than picking a substance with which to grease your pan or attempting to hone a flouring technique, whip up a batch of Alton's Kitchen Lube. The brilliant food personality combined the grease + flour steps into one easy recipe that will save you a heck of a lot of time in the kitchen.

Simply mix up some shortening and flour, store (well-sealed!) in your pantry and pull it out any time a recipe requires a prepared pan. Slather on with a paper towel or some waxed paper. Foods -- try as they might -- oughtn't stick to the pan.
