Häagen-Dazs Simplifies with 5 Ingredients

Häagen-Dazs Five Vanilla BeanHäagen-Dazs is going back to basics with its new line of ice cream - Five. The company is offering 7 flavors - mint, ginger, coffee, vanilla bean, passion fruit, brown sugar, and milk chocolate - that are made with just 5 ingredients. For example, vanilla is made from skim milk, cream, sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla extract.

Fellow blog Springwise believes that the launching of the Häagen-Dazs Five is symbolic of the current economic environment: "Pure, natural, simple-in today's ailing economic climate, such adjectives hold a nostalgic appeal." But, in such tough economic times, who's willing to spend about $7 on a pint of ice cream?

To make 3 pints, you need And an ice-cream maker, about 10 minutes of active time and $8 worth of premium organic ingredients. That's less than half the price of H&D (and if you use non-organic ingredients, the cost is even less). $50 will buy you a new ice-cream maker, so let's see... $5.30 saved by batch: 10 batches and you are now in business (believe me, it does not take a long time to whip 10 batched of ice-cream). And just think about it: any flavor you want....

It would be hilarious if they slapped a "Five" label on it and charged a premium. On the other hand, if they're priced the same as their normal line...then perhaps it is a nice way to highlight something that they've been doing for a very long time.

I work for Haagen-Dazs. I would just like to add that our Suggested Retail Price is $4.19 across the country. I would love to know if any retailers are charging more than that.
Thank you,
Crystal
