Obama's Burger Order

On the one hand, I have to admit that I am a little creeped out by the amount of coverage that the Obama family is getting. There is no reason that I need to know the menu options offered by Sidwell Friends School or the identity of Michelle Obama's favorite clothing designer. These things have no impact on the President's ability to govern or on my day-to-day life.

On the other hand, I, like so many of my fellow Americans, am fascinated by my new President, and the more I learn about the little details of his life, the more human and real he seems. While I admit to being a little disturbed by the nascent cult of personality that seems to be developing around President Obama, I feel like I can trust him to keep a clear head, no matter how hard the country seems to be working on giving him a messiah complex. In fact, the man who emerges from this National Geographic trailer seems as level-headed as they come.

Having voiced my mixed feelings about invasive media coverage of the new President, I need to point out that National Geographic's clip raised some uncomfortable questions. Although I have a great deal of admiration for President Obama, he and I recently parted ways on a very important matter of taste and policy. While I approve of his decision to top his burger with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and dijon mustard, I must strenuously object to his choice to have it grilled medium well. Although not as egregiously awful as well done, medium well is still pretty heavily overcooked. If President Obama wants to eat a hockey puck, the man should order a hockey puck. If he wants a burger, he should go with, at most, medium rare. Similarly, his decision to consume both a salad and fries seems destined to have a highly destructive effect on his famously slim silhouette.

In the end, these are minor details, but out of such minor details are great men made. With that in mind, I can't wait to uncover the identity of Obama's favorite breakfast cereal. Somehow, he seems like a Wheaties kind of guy.

As for morning cereal. I'm thinking Corn Flakes, or maybe Life.

I can't believe he isn't a bacon cheeseburger man. And mustard on a burger isn't something a Chicago man thinks proper.

Since when does a Chicagoan not use mustard on a burger?
