No matter how much we try not to, there are times that our food will spoil before we can get to it. However, with citrus, you should never struggle with spoiling fruit. Just prep it for the freezer!
You can make the most of your oranges, lemons, and limes in two steps:
First, get the zest. If you don't have a lot, just grate it for future baking and flavoring needs. But if you have more, you can even get specific and prepare to freeze some zest chunks or slices, some grated zest, and some twists for future martinis.
Then, get the juice. Once you juice the citrus, freeze it into your desired format (bags, containers, cubes). If you have extra time, you can go a step further and freeze it into carefully measured cubes -- by tsp or tbsp.
This does mean that you have to keep an eye on your citrus. However, as long as it doesn't get completely shriveled, like that unfortunate lemon to the right, you're set!

Just toss the peels in while it is burning.
We buy alot of citrus, we have a large family. so I have enough to zest and toss in my fire place. We actually have a wood cook stove.
I hope that was helpful. Have a nice day!
