As many of you know, the products we regularly buy at the grocery store have slowly been shrinking over the last year or two. Peanut butter jars, yogurt cups and tubs of ice cream are all now smaller than they once were, while the price points have remained the same.
Häagen-Dazs, the original purveyor of premium ice cream, recently announced that they too would be reducing the amount of ice cream in their packages, going from a standard 16 ounce pint to a slimmed down 14 ounces. However, instead of going about this reduction quietly, as other companies have done, they're broadcasting the news. You see, they feel that they are protecting their high quality by reducing the contents of the cartons by "a few spoonfuls."
Starting in January 2009 (so you may already be seeing these reduced cartons on the shelves) the pint will shrink and the 32 ounce cartons will change to 28 ounces.

| I wish they'd raise the prices and keep the packages the same size. | |

They count on the math stupidity of the American public (can we blame them?). Don't know what I'll do when Coke changes over, ... iced tea, maybe?

I once took 2 ice cream containers out of the freezer at the same time, a Haagen-Dazs and another brand, and realized that the other brand was much easier to scoop because it had a lot of air whipped into it. Unlike most foods, ice cream is sold by VOLUME, not by weight. So lots of ice creams just froth up their product to make it seem less expensive by volume. I think ice cream sellers should be required to state BOTH the volume AND the weight of the contents to help consumers comparison shop.

It is up to you to decide whose product you want to buy. In most cases you will find that the "store brand" is the best buy and has just as good quality. Look for coupons and use them.

Trade that fat/processed sugar laden crap for some fresh fruit - you'll feel better and live longer. Obesity and diabetes are out of control in this country.

There are plenty of options, like not eating it in the first place. FOR crying out loud it's January, are you living in Australia where it's summer or are our sitting on your porch in Fargo with a pint of fudge ripple? Seriously folks, want to save on your food budget? Cut out the sweets and junk and you will save a fortune.

All of a sudden they are looking to preserve quality - what a crock! Stop buying their product is the only way to make an impact, but not enough people will do it. Too bad.

I only buy what , I need , this extra b/s like cookies , candy , chips ,etcc is a waste of money , not counting "bottled water , toilet paper , paper towels , and much more .
Citizens of United States been awake for a long time , the media wants everyone to believe they all been asleep. Give people more credit , they're smart and they know exactly what they should and shouldn't buy .
This economy started with Gasoline , Housing , Jobs , and etcccc. If you want to complain , go to your senators and congressmen and tell them how much you're tired of CEO'S AND THERE GOLDEN PARACHUTES .
They're the cause of this , laying off people by the thousands . People can't go out and buy if they dont have a job . They've to conserve too .
You do what's best for yourself and or family .
Pay off the bills , save money if any.
Everyday write down what you learn about this economy , if senators or congressmen are helping or if the new president doing any good . People will be watching all this closely ( daily ).

What you get now is BGH-infused milk (what, the cows need help producing milk all of a sudden, or is it just GREED), and a bunch of diabetes-inducing corn syrup and artery-clogging hydrogenated oil. Edy's is the most disgusting of all! When I was a kid, you rarely saw an obese person; proves that these evil additives ARE the CULPRIT! Don;t give me the bull that it is 'portions'; this CRAP is no good whatsoever in ANY portion!

It's simply a choice between what you need and what you want, no one has to have ice cream...it is a treat. I don't worry about ice cream, my focus is on bread, milk, potatoes, etc. As a working Mom/college student I worry about frozen family meals the price of a large lasagna that I can slip in the oven between work and school, making sure the family eats while I'm in class...$5 is a taco meal...I understand that we all want a treat now and again, but if this isn't a regular food staple...why get upset over it...just don't buy it.
