Häagen-Dazs Shrinks Package, Says It's to Preserve Quality

haagen dazs logo
As many of you know, the products we regularly buy at the grocery store have slowly been shrinking over the last year or two. Peanut butter jars, yogurt cups and tubs of ice cream are all now smaller than they once were, while the price points have remained the same.

Häagen-Dazs
, the original purveyor of premium ice cream, recently announced that they too would be reducing the amount of ice cream in their packages, going from a standard 16 ounce pint to a slimmed down 14 ounces. However, instead of going about this reduction quietly, as other companies have done, they're broadcasting the news. You see, they feel that they are protecting their high quality by reducing the contents of the cartons by "a few spoonfuls."

Starting in January 2009 (so you may already be seeing these reduced cartons on the shelves) the pint will shrink and the 32 ounce cartons will change to 28 ounces.

100 years ago, Teddy Roosevelt crushed these bast*rds, and it's time to do it again.

Also, coffee companies: potato chips: bacon: and many others. To me, its deciving the public when they do this.....thinking no one would catch on. If the price needs to be raised, so be it. If I want to pay the price, I'll buy it. Little Debbie cakes is one of the Companies I've complained to. The used to sell a box of raisen cakes 8-10 for 99 cents. I told them they should call them crackers they've gotten so small. Deciet deciet deciet

Haagan-Daz should have just #1 - kept quiet like everyone else, or #2. kept the package the same size and raised the price slightly. Haagan-Daz is a "staple" for us women who need a special treat or are feeling the blues and need to spoil ourselves. With a small price increase, I don't think many of us would have noticed or cared, really, as when we need to spoil ourselves, especially, "pass me my Haagan-Daz" is the universal language of many women needing that "it may be too fattening but oh it tastes so good" pampering. I know I do! I also know that I can (and do) buy other brands cheaper as I should have sugar free, (BTW - Blue Bell's is excellent!) but sometimes we just gotta have it! JMO as a woman who's a member of the "GAUD I NEED a Haagan Das!" club...Lol

You can overeat and poison yourself at the same time. Dreyers is better, made w/ sugar and I am in Texas, where BB is made. Blue Bell is still making money but what about your health. High Fructose corn syrup is way cheaper than sugar. How much is BB gouging you for when consider the difference in the cost of the ingredients?

Ben & Jerry's is proudly bashing this dishonest and self serving tactic as Ben & Jerry's is keeping their pint a pint with no additional price increase. Check out thier web site www.benjerry.com for info on this...one needs to be more careful than ever in the market bcs too many companies are out to screw with what you perceive as value.

I don't care how much I like the product, I will not buy from theiving greedy corporate honchos so they can have their vacations in the Riviera. If a product has to go up in price because of the economy, that is easier to accept than just shrinking the package and making up some lame excuse like "keeping it fresh" and hoping we're stupid enough to believe it. Give us a break!

Go figure. McDonald's stuff gets any smaller you can compare it to White Castles. It has been happening forever. I guess some people just figured they needed a good excuse to do it or they would have done it sooner too. The 18 oz peanut butter jars look to me like the have shrunk too but they still say 18 oz. Same with some other stuff too like the 13oz bags of chips now 11 oz plus they rasied the prices. "double whammy". I go to the discount grocers and still have to watch out because some of their items are more than the big name grocers. I used to get a cart stocked full for 75.00 but now it's 175.00 They all said gas prices were to blame. How long does it take them to follow gas prices back down? (not that we expect them to stay down for long)

The so-called FAMILY size is now smaller than what the regular size used to be. Cottonelle toilet paper did the same thing, too. Only they decided to do it when they revealed a new package design. They jacked up the price & cut the once 400-sheet double rolls down to 308 sheets (although they've been dropping the size of the roll for quite some time - 1st to 375 then 352 now 308). I am so sick of corporations thinking consumers are idiots & we don't even realize they are robbing us blind.
