Tom Colicchio is well-known in the food community as a great chef, a fair judge on Top Chef and a successful restaurateur. After last night, we can now also add hero to his list of accomplishments. He was in attendance at an Art.Food.Hope dinner in Washington, D.C. when cookbook author Joan Nathan (most famously known for Jewish Cooking in America and The New American Cooking) choked on a piece of chicken. According to Ezra Klein of the Internet Food Association, who was also in attendance at the dinner, Alice Waters came running, shouting for someone to perform the Heimlich Maneuver after Nathan began to choke. Colicchio happened to be close by and was able to dislodge the offending morsel quickly.
Klein had an opportunity to speak with both parties after the incident. Colicchio offered an unassuming "I just happened to be nearby." Nathan commented with flattering appreciation, "He's so strong!"

I wouldn't want to make a assuming comment. Maybe this such a hot story that you couldn't waste time proofreading your work?? I know, I'm a ass.

You wrote "Maybe this such a hot story..." I assume you meant "Maybe this IS such a hot story..." I guess that means you need to learn to proofread what you write before you post it. And unlike you, I'm not an ass.

PLEASE NOTE: It is also possible to use a variation of this on yourself in the event you are choking on something and no one is around to help.

Being a nurse I was able to help despite the few Hurricanes I ingested earlier in the evening!! It is just not in my nature to let someone die around me. No compensation but an after dinner drink from Emerils, and only an offer of dessert from the man behind me who was drooling and blue while his 7 tablemates just looked at him in horror. Oh, good story anyway.

Why aren't you all teaching English Grammar if you're so perfect?

In response to all the people who are crying about bad grammar... well, I guess they need a little more to do in their lives other than proofread PUBLISHED writers. We all make mistakes people, and pointing them out is fine, but being an ass about it just shows how bored you are. Once you write a piece worth reading, proofread your own work... that should keep you busy!

I had read it a few times while browsing the pantry and when my son took a huge bite of hamburger trying to be funny he fist choked and then had his mouth open no air or noise coming out. He remembers it to this day and says mom remember when you saved my life?
