The article about 'ol Jacques was entertaining. For those whose television experiences don't go back far enuf - you missed out. Not to say that frugal cooking hasn't been around for some time. "The Joy of Cooking" cookbook was a good start. Certainly 'ol Julia carried on the tradition. Where are the 'modern' promoters of frugal cooking?
Try to catch the episode where Julia and Jacques perform on stage for a PBS fundraiser. Just like other co-appearances (all PBS shows, to my knowledge) the banter is worth the price of admission. From omelets to hamburgers the pair could entertain, and teach. Of course fancy dishes are what interested high paying customers, and that is where he made his reputation.
Some others I can remember are Justin Wilson of Louisiana (great jokes) and, pardon me for forgetting, a guy in Pensacola, FL who loved pepper. Basic dishes loved by all.
