A weekly look at the draft selection at beer-friendly bars across the country.
Wow. Haven't gotten a blog up in awhile: The holiday really wore me down. I was in Seattle for just 4 days and 3 nights (of which the Thanksgiving Day holiday was spent entirely inside a house) and still managed to hit up two breweries/brewpubs (Redhook and Pyramid), two wineries (Chateau Ste. Michelle and Novelty Hill/Januik) and a wine-centric restaurant (eh, we'll leave that one up to the imagination).
My flight lands in Newark just before midnight on Saturday, and shortly after 1am I find myself in d.b.a. on 1st Avenue in Manhattan. If you're worried I might have a problem, don't fret, I had a friend in town from down south and going to d.b.a. was my only chance to catch him before he flew home.
But it was also a great chance to see what d.b.a. had on tap. After the jump, see d.b.a.'s draft list from Saturday, November 29th...
- O'hara's Celtic Stout
- Boddingtons Pub Ale
- Fuller's ESB
- Sixpoint Righteous Rye Ale
- Doc's Draft Cider
- Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA
- Jever Pilsener
- Stoudt's Pils
- Ommegang Witte
- Brooklyn Flemish Style Golden Ale
- Dogfish Head Raison D'Etre
- Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barley Wine
- Dogfish Head Cherry Stout
- Julius Echter Weissebier
- Taras Boulba
- De Ranke Guldenberg
- Ridgeway Seriously Bad Elf (hand-drawn)
I had a Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barley Wine (which seems to be about the hoppiest barley wine I've had in awhile, no complaints here) and multiple other members of my party enjoyed the Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. I took a taster of the hand-pumped Ridgeway Seriously Bad Elf (seriously fruity) and was on my way. But as one of the more reliable beer-friendly bars in my general vicinity, I will certainly be back.
Keep an eye out for me in the webcam.
Next week, What's On Tap will leave the east coast, I promise! Check in on upcoming Wednesdays for draft lists from bars in Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston, TX!
d.b.a. is located at 41 First Ave. in New York, NY. www.drinkgoodstuff.com.

Please, please, please have someone hit me up next time you come to Seattle. Redhook and Pyramid are absolutely not a good representation of fine Seattle brewing. There is much more interesting stuff happening out here in the world of micro brew.

Ha. I was waiting for someone to say that, B. So explanation: We hit up Redhook strictly due to proximity (though I was pleasantly surprised) and Pyramid for nostalgia's sake. Let's just say this wasn't a business trip...
But if you do have recommendations, by all means, send them to me!

DBA is one of the worst beer bars in NYC. Lousy selection, uninformed and rude staff, and the place smells like a**. Seriously, you could have done so much better.

Sorry, B (#2). Not every person is going to like every bar. But I am always happy to receive suggestions!
