Apple Pie With a Bacon Lattice Top and More

bacon apple pie
You can't turn around these days without discovering some new, creative thing that someone has done with bacon. My favorite of late is the apple pie with bacon lattice that you see above. This was served at a private Thanksgiving celebration, but a two-person mini-pie version will be available at Lincoln Restaurant and Culinary Artistry in Portland, OR very soon. Also intriguing is this Bacon Magic Shell from Cooking With Tits [via Not Martha], these Bacon Cookies (I realize it's an old post, but still sounds delicious) from Elkit in Wonderland [via Schmutzie] and the Bacon and Cheese Roll at FoodProof.

I love bacon and I love apples but this is disgusting. What a waste of a good pie and (hopefully) great bacon.

Just today a friend, who's tried this pie, sent a review of the VooDoo bacon maple bars and deemed the pie superior due to its better balance of flavors (seems she thought the maple was too strong in the VooDoo donut). She still liked the donut though. :-)

Rt: don't knock it until you've tried it.

I've made a bacon-topped apple pie twice in as many weeks and all tasters (which numbered > 12) greatly enjoyed it, without exception. Even those who were skeptical at first.

My blog post on the subject, finally and coincidentally published last night:
