Last meals.

You discuss it after a particularly satisfying holiday feast. Melanie Dunea wrote a book about the topic last year. And now, the National Museum of Crime and Punishment has queried more than 500 of their visitors on the subject, asking: "What if you could have absolutely anything you desired -- and what if you knew it would be the last meal you ever ate?"

There were absolutely no limitations or conditions set on the answers. The questioners found that people tended to gravitate towards foods that were either comforting and familiar or extravagantly luxurious for their final repast. The most popular responses were...

Some of the more unusual requests included kielbasa, pop tarts and Stouffer's macaroni and cheese. There were also many votes for John Wayne Gacy's last meal, which was 12 deep-fried shrimp, a bucket of Original Recipe chicken from KFC, french fries and a pound of strawberries.

Personally, I think I'd go for really excellent Vietnamese deep fried spring rolls, several slices perfectly charred, brick oven pizza and a hand-packed pint of Bassett's Ice Cream. How about you?

Then I would ask for gooey, cheesy quesedas/ w sour cream, the whole works, and the best Mac& Cheese casserole ever!! and lot's of it, then cherry cheesecake, from the Cheesecake Factory, all this will be washed down w/ a glass of Scoth/neat..then I would already be gone....

For my main meal I want a genuine thick Kobe steak medium-rare, steamed Maine lobster with melted butter, char-broiled large scallops, Lahaina BBQ ribs, char-grilled chili relleno, zucchini and eggplant, scalloped potatoes, and a hot pot of Kona coffee.
For dessert, Hagan-Das dark chocolate ice cream drenched in Napoleon Cognac.
At this point, I'll pass out from eating too much.

I would have a Ruths Chris sizzling hot filet mignon, Topekas hot buttered yeast rolls, an Outback salad with homemade blue cheese dressing, and a dozen hot glazed Krispy Kreme donuts washed down with a pot of Starbucks breakfast Blend coffee and cream. But then I would probably throw up and aspirate before they electrocuted me.

First, a martini and 1 of each assorted "junk food" appetizers - potato skin; mozzerella stick; mini taco; onion ring; cheese quesadilla - all with appropriate sauces (ketchup, taco sauce, sour cream, salsa, marinara.) Next, filet mignon (medium well) with sauteed mushrooms and A-1; loaded baked potato and a bottle of good red wine; salad with cheese, cucumbers, onions, green olives, sunflower seeds, bacon and ranch dressing (calories? HAH!) and maybe some garlic bread, too. Hmm, what else (actually by this time I would already be WAY too full to even have finished the entree....) Another martini...a piece of plain cheesecake...another martini....one fresh, ripe strawberry....another martini (hey, do I want to be lucid at this point?)...a Peanut Buster Parfait from Dairy Queen...some 2% milk...Dutch Crunch potato chips....heck, I'd be either puking, passed out or both by this time. How can anyone decide this? Not that I feel sorry for death row people....they have been convicted and (I believe) they deserve their fate.

Fresh, hot baked bread with lots of real butter. A baked potato with the works.... and Totino's pepperoni pizza rolls heated in the oven.

French vanilla iced coffee with cream & sugar.

For my entree: Oven roasted turkey breast with stuffing and brown gravy... with a few slices of bread, jellied cranberry sauce and mayo to make sandwiches with. Two carne asada burritos with sour cream and guacamole. One very hot steakhouse style cheeseburger, well done. Lobster ravioli in a butter cream sauce. Homemade baked macaroni & cheese. Two servings of my Mom's lasagna.

Frozen strawberry daquiri & 10 large ripe strawberries.

For dessert: a large 4x4 square piece of tiramisu. An entire 8" chocolate cake with plenty of chocolate ganache icing. One whole pumpkin pie. Pumpkin gelato with real hot fudge on the side to dip my spoon in. Dark chocolate brownies with espresso chips & nuts, frosted with milk chocolate frosting. 4 Reese's PB Big Cups. One gallon of whole milk.

Grande Mocha Frappuchino from Starbucks & a frozen mudslide w/ whipped cream.
