Last meals.
You discuss it after a particularly satisfying holiday feast. Melanie Dunea wrote a book about the topic last year. And now, the National Museum of Crime and Punishment has queried more than 500 of their visitors on the subject, asking: "What if you could have absolutely anything you desired -- and what if you knew it would be the last meal you ever ate?"
There were absolutely no limitations or conditions set on the answers. The questioners found that people tended to gravitate towards foods that were either comforting and familiar or extravagantly luxurious for their final repast. The most popular responses were...
Some of the more unusual requests included kielbasa, pop tarts and Stouffer's macaroni and cheese. There were also many votes for John Wayne Gacy's last meal, which was 12 deep-fried shrimp, a bucket of Original Recipe chicken from KFC, french fries and a pound of strawberries.
Personally, I think I'd go for really excellent Vietnamese deep fried spring rolls, several slices perfectly charred, brick oven pizza and a hand-packed pint of Bassett's Ice Cream. How about you?

I would have a meal from The French Laundry - really any Thomas Keller meal would suffice, but all of the courses of a TFL meal would be fabulous.

After Anthony Bourdain recently posed the question on his show, I started thinking about this. I have three possibilities (alright four):
- Spaghetti
- Meatloaf
- Roast Chicken, Stuffing, and Peas
- Maryland Crab Cakes
It's an interesting question to ponder.

I would choose a starter of bresciola and arugula dressed with lemon and olive oil, then a plate of fresh tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce, next, a perfectly grilled slice of beef tenderloin (medium-rare) and finally, a nice dish of creme brulee all washed down with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot, but I guess they don't allow alcohol in prison.

Anything I had not yet tried that I wanted to as a first course/s
Then a crispy on the outside, warm on the inside, salty, fatty, 2 inch thick Ribeye, with a bottle of 2003 DeLoach OFS Cabernet Sauvignon, or a bottle of Sangiovese, a selection of steak cut and shoestring french fries fried with duck fat for the next course no veggies.
A post steak aperitif, Port, with some dark chocolate, or Bleu Cheese.
Dessert, Creme brulee.
Nightcap: Some single malt scotch. Laphroaig, Ardbeg, or any of the Islay whiskeys.

This is such a hard decision! But in the end, I always think of my dad's homemade pasta and marinara sauce. So many memories come to mind when I was little and I would help crank the pasta or stir the sauce. This is probably why I love to cook so much now that I am away from home in college!

First a glass of Vintage 1914 Pernod Fils Absinthe.
Appetizer: some italian Antipasti or some shrimps in a salad or cocktail...
Entree: Veal Osso Buco with a mushroom risotto and an extra merrow bone on the side.
Dessert: A perfectly made (my recipe) Tiramisu.
Finally an espresso shot with dark chocolate on the side.

I would have a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken with a double order of Mashed taters and gravy, biscuits,(extra butter), slaw, and whatever sides they have on the menu. I would also have a whole pumpkin pie with whipped cream, (may go back for seconds), Chocolate Cake with chocolate icing and vanilla ice cream. I would also have 2 bottles of very good white wine.

well if your having your last meal there could be a chance you did the old american crime of murder, so in that case I would have to have the good ole hillbilly redneck mean, I was 32ounce Steak med, well, 20 butterfly shrimp a salad and a baked potatoe and a strawberry shortcake, a man who was recently put to death in Kentucky last week, got most of that for his last meal, It is my understanding that for their last meal they can eat what ever it is their hearts desire, one last thing to remember this earth by I guess. but I have never heard of a last meal denied to a death roll inmate.

I used to think i was the only weirdo who thought about what i'd request as a last meal. I'd have to go for my wife's home-made eggplant parmigiana, a side of my late Dad's spaghetti marinara, and for dessert my late Mom's cheesecake. There's no place like home! (Okay, right before I go, perhaps a spoonful of Haagen Daas coffee ice cream, since fat is no longer a concern.) Yum!!

I used to ask this question years ago in my Social Psychology course. It had nothing to do with being on death row. The female students generally had a simple meal "in preparation to be with the Lord." The male students stuffed their faces and included illegal drugs! As for me: a classic Italian meal, from antipasto through cappellini w/ oil & garlic, espresso, & a really big slice of chocolate cake. Oh, a fine bottle of chianti vino!
