I'm going to preface this by admitting a few painful truths. First of all, I have to admit that I have been known to occasionally become completely addicted to various fast food treats. For example, in the 1990's, I had an almost rabid attraction to Wendy's' Big Dave's Deluxe burger. Basically a sloppy agglomeration of everything that is good to eat and bad for you, the Big Dave's Deluxe occupied an outsize portion of my free mental space for a fairly long period of time. In fact, even now, I occasionally find myself ruminating about its fried onions and crispy bacon...My second difficult admission has to do with my age. I have to admit that I am, indeed, old enough to remember when McDonald's McNuggets first hit the market. As a young fast-food junkie, I was immediately enamored of the crunchy little slabs of pre-formed chicken gristle, and loved experimenting with the various sauces. In fact, for a couple of years they were my go-to food whenever I found myself at the golden arches (aka "Kiddie Nirvana").
At some point over the past 25 years, McNuggets and I went our separate ways. Looking back, I think it had something to do with me biting a nugget, looking at the other half sitting in my hand, and losing my appetite. Even so, I still remember the joy that they brought me, which is why I decided to check out Nuggnuts, McDonalds' site for McNuggets obsessives. While I liked the idea and enjoyed the playful site design (it makes a fun clucking sound when it loads the various pages), I was disappointed to discover that Mickey D's didn't really put in a lot of room for user participation. Basically, it's just a site where they shill for McNuggets.
I'm still waiting for a Big Dave's Deluxe fan site, although I'd settle for a shrine dedicated to Dairy Queen's Flamethrower burger!

I've always loved them since I was a kid, and oddly, I actually liked them better before the "All white meat" thing happened. Even today I'll eat them, going for the 20 piece and hot mustard sauce. I always and still have the habit of nibbling the breading off the top half, then dipping in sauce and eating as normal.

My kids love these, it is quite funny actually, my kids call McDonalds - Old McDonalds and the chicken nuggets - chicken nuts.
It is quite catchy.

I remember when they weren't all "white meat" too. You could always pick out the dark meat pieces because they were all shaped liked boots.
The worse thing is, they've discontinued the hot mustard sauce here too.

I kind of miss McNuggets as well. Though my mom managed to buy a big bag of frozen ones that tasted just like them. I ate them all up. I'm thinking of going back to vegetarian in the new year, maybe I should get some nuggets before that happens.
