Tip of the Day: Freeze your ripe bananas

Have some ripe bananas that you don't have time to cook right now? Freeze them!

overripe bananas

Bananas are a wonderful fruit. They're easy and quick to eat, they can be quickly added to cereals, and best of all -- they're wonderful when overripe. There aren't many foods out there that age well, at least, not without a whole intricate process (like, say, sourdough or wine). But bananas -- just leave them be and when they're overripe, they're just itching for tasty baked goods.

But what if they get perfectly overripe when you're too busy to use them? It's easy -- freeze or fridge them.

Freezing is the best option, unless you plan to get to them soon. You can either put the bananas in a zip-lock bag, smush them, and freeze them, or you can freeze them whole, defrost, and just squeeze out the tasty insides when needed.

However, there are times when I just want a few extra days for my bananas. In that case, I'll press them into a container and store them in the fridge until I'm ready. That keeps them perfect for upcoming banana-flavored treats.
