Sometimes, it has to be done. Maybe you're celebrating something. Maybe you're entertaining a client. Maybe your editor just chopped up your interview and you want to kill everyone. What am I talking about? Drinking at lunch.Drinking at lunch can be dangerous. Some people get bad headaches from it, even from a glass of wine. It's really best to drink at lunch only if you're going to have time for a nap, but since that isn't realistic, make sure you have Advil at your desk - it might not hurt to pop a couple as a preventative measure.
Don't scare your clients, and don't knock yourself out. Avoid hardcore drinks like martinis, and avoid drinking your night drink during the day; it's likely to make you tired because your brain is used to having it before sleep. If you're particularly prone to afternoon headaches, it's a good idea to drink something involving juice or coffee to try and trick your brain a little.
In addition to headaches and naps (and wildly inappropriate crying jags), drinking at lunch can also cause raucous laughter, the closing of deals; the alleviation of unbearable tension, and a more carefree afternoon to follow.
My picks for what to drink at lunch ( In moderation) are after the jump...
- A glass of dry rosé wine - a fashionable and delicious choice
- Coffee with Tia Maria - a pickmeup and putmedown in one
- A Bellini or Mimosa - bellinis are a personal favorite, but unless they're using fresh peach puree, there's likely to be Schnapps or something equally dangerous; opt for the mimosa
- Patron XO - try sipping this delectable coffee-tequila liqueur after the meal instead of espresso; it's a good tequila alternative for anyone who, like me, knows that no post-margarita work is ever quite right
- A Bloody Mary - though it's a hangover-cure classic, it's also a great drink and a good choice for daytime, what with all the vegetable nutrients; try a bloody caesar for an even more savory taste
- A Screwdriver - screws with me, but I understand that other people are totally all over the lunchtime screwdriver, so here it is; I prefer vodka with cranberry juice or lemonade instead
- A draft lager - don't know why, but darker beers seem to make me more tired than lighter beers
- Champagne - simple, classic, and totally respectable at lunch
Tell your waiter you're celebrating - who knows, you may get a free dessert!

A beer with lunch is a god given right. Especially on a friday. Beer and a burger or a margarita and taco or quesedilla is what it all about.

God given right is right.
I'll be damned if I'm going out to lunch and can't have a glass of wine with it.
We got a new boss recently, (fortune 100 company), he took us out to lunch, and I think he was a little taken back by us ordering/drinking a glass or two of wine, but he caught on quick...
In these economic times, little things...mean a lot. A drink at lunch, a little bit of a longer lunch, company picking up a lunch here and there...

I feel like gin is an "up" alcohol. At least this is what I was told when on vacation and a friend got her purse stolen and needed folks to drink with at noon. I got the sense that gin and tonic was an appropriate midday drink. I'm useless after I drink though so I wouldn't really know...

I have seen more alcohol consumed at a Friday lunch in New Orleans (I am usually not out at a business lunch establishment on other days of the week as it is a trip down for me, so I can't comment) than many people have in an evening out. After lunch (always an extended lunch), everyone goes back to work and does just fine.
