My grandmother used to say that if you're going out to eat, you should always choose restaurants that serve foods that you aren't able to make at home. Because of that, she typically choose to eat out at Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants, because those were particular cooking skill sets that she didn't have. However, as an adventurous cook, she did like to dabble in Asian flavors and push herself beyond the array of recipes that formed her comfort zone. One cookbook I think she would have really enjoyed is Nancie McDermott's Quick & Easy Chinese. It's a carefully curated volume that focuses on familiar and beloved recipes. It's a nice, sturdy paperback that is chock full of lots of gorgeous, glossy, inspirational pictures. The recipes aren't anything super exotic, but instead are all those favorite dishes that Americans tend to adore like Beef with Broccoli and Chicken with Cashews.
For those of you who plan to avoid ordering take out all the time and want to learn to make your favorites at home, this is most definitely the book for you!

I think as we grow older, especially with our busy lifestyles we begin to fully appreciate the Culinary Arts.
Some of my friends are professional chefs and they sometimes give me a tough time because I do not cook that often-work late.
I mostly order from their restaurant’s take out menus. They usually smile when I do prepare something special.
One of my favorite dishes during the holidays is an old fashioned–home made beef stew recipe with freshly made French bread to dip the sauce.
I think every culture has a favorite special old fashioned–home made beef stew recipe to prepare with friends/family during the holiday season.
