As of last Friday, the weather here in Philadelphia has dropped down into acceptable fall levels. Right now, I've got my living room window open and a nice, cool breeze is drifting in. Since the temperature has dropped, I've made batches of chili and soup and I'm looking forward to all the pots of soups and stews that are yet to come this season. Several weeks ago, I queried the Slashfood readers, asking for their favorite soup recipes. I've got those queued up, but I'm still always on the search for additional soup inspiration. Some of that fresh guidance is coming from 300 Sensational Soups by Carla Snyder and Meredith Deeds. They've filled this book with veggie purees, hearty stews, cold soups and other classic recipes. The recipes in this book are interspersed with pictures, so that as you flip through, bright images often leap out and tackle you with their appeal.
I'm excited about a number of recipes in this book, including Tortellini and Mushrooms in Parmesan Stock (page 66), Zucchini, Cheese and Sausage Soup (page 144) and the Pennsylvania Dutch Chicken-Corn Soup with Tiny Dumplings (page 192).
