Mother's Cookies are no more

(Click the photo to see the Top 5 Best Selling Cookie Brands)

When I think of Mother's Cookies, I immediately slip back into my childhood. I remember Sunday School snack, which often consisted of a tiny cup of grape juice and one or two of those pink and white frosted, animal shaped sugar cookies. During high school, my friends and I would often run to the dirty downtown Safeway for snacks to last us through play rehearsal and often, a bag of Mother's Cookies would return to school with us.

As of this Monday, there will be no more fresh memories of Mother's Cookies. The Oakland, CA-based company abruptly closed their doors and filed for bankruptcy protection, citing the rising costs of fuel and supplies as the reason. A number of people lost their jobs in the closing and the country lost an iconic cookie.

Were these 'on the shelf' in New England?

It seems illegal. I NEEEED my cookies. The taffys, chocolate sandwich and so many more were delicious. I bought them all the time!!!! I'm going to miss dumping the bag of sprinkles of the empty circus cookies down my throat.

I just had to go on-line to see what was up and I am sad to find out that they are gone forever. My grandma always had these cookies at her house. Her favorite were the Flakey Flix. Circus animals and iced oatmeal cookies made an appearance in her kitchen a lot too. I've so many of these cookies throughout my life and my son loved the circus animal cookies. I was so sad when flakey Flix were dropped.....but they brought them back and I bought them every time I went to a store that stocked them. I don't know why I feel so sad. I guess I just wish my boys could grow up with the same cookie memories that I have. :o)

I would have paid twice as much if it meant keeping them in business.

Give your family the rarest of Holiday treats – Mother’s Cookies!

We are sad to hear the report that Mother’s Cookies has gone bankrupt and are no longer making their delicious Frosted Animal Cookies and other wonderful treats. Our church (www.etiampeccaitis.org) was fortunate to get a supply of some of the very last bags to come out of the bakery. We have decided to sell the cookies to the general public as a fundraiser – which will go to purchase farm animals (cows, pigs, chicks, etc.) for African families to support themselves growing their own agribusiness. Every dollar goes to support this program (you can find out more by going to www.Heifer.org)

We have several different varieties of Mother’s cookies available. Here is the current list:

Frosted Animal Cookies, 14 oz. bag or 10 oz. bag.
Iced Oatmeal Cookies, 14 oz. bag
Cookie Variety pack, 14 oz. bag
Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter, 14 oz. bag
Frosted Holiday Cookies, 14 oz. bag
Holiday Gingerbread Men, 14 oz. bag
The cost is $7.50 per 14 oz. bag, and $6.00 for a 10 oz. bag. There may be additional charges for shipping.

Send us an email at friareric@aol.com and we’ll get your order reserved right away!
