Mother's Cookies are no more
When I think of Mother's Cookies, I immediately slip back into my childhood. I remember Sunday School snack, which often consisted of a tiny cup of grape juice and one or two of those pink and white frosted, animal shaped sugar cookies. During high school, my friends and I would often run to the dirty downtown Safeway for snacks to last us through play rehearsal and often, a bag of Mother's Cookies would return to school with us.
As of this Monday, there will be no more fresh memories of Mother's Cookies. The Oakland, CA-based company abruptly closed their doors and filed for bankruptcy protection, citing the rising costs of fuel and supplies as the reason. A number of people lost their jobs in the closing and the country lost an iconic cookie.

That's so sad. Those were great cookies, and I always thought they were too cheap. Wish they'd charged a little more for them, and stayed in business. I'm going to run out and buy a couple of bags just for old times sake!

OMG NO! UGH the world will never be the same.
Mothers make your recipes OPEN SOURCE!
Awww, I have such fond memories of these cookies. They remind me of my childhood and my own mom since she would always be the one who would buy these cookies. I remember how she'd always bring them out with a flourish since the frosted Circus Animal cookies were an especially sweet treat and we'd dig into the bag together. :( *sigh* I'll miss these cookies very much.
I'm officially in mourning. Part of the healing process for me was designing this t-shirt honoring the legacy of the Original Circus Animal cookie:

Hope you enjoy, first 20 orders get an actual sealed bag of Mother's circus animal cookies, I ran out to the store last night in a frenzy and bought what I could find.
You'll be missed, Mother's!

Another one bites the dust. My family love these (I do too but rarely eat them). I love the Halloween black and orange colors.
That's too bad. Maybe they'll survive somehow or get bought out.
This is deadly serious, im a mothers cookie addict and im really going to be hurten. I bought Mothers oakmeal, cookie parade, chocolate chip, and gouchos cookies this weekend.
Im seriously thinking of buying a garage freezer to store them in.
Im not the cookie monster, Im the cookie monsters worst nightmare.
Does anybody know if they will be bought up so they can continue?
