Everyone I know has done it- accidentally grabbing the handle of a pot or pan without a potholder and enduring a great amount of pain due to it. The next time you burn yourself, believe it or not, vanilla extract will help take the initial pain away.
- Generously moisten a cotton ball or swab with vanilla extract.
- Try to avoid placing the cotton ball or swab against the bottle's opening, as it may contaminate the extract.
- Roll the swab or cotton ball over your burn gently. Squeeze out excess vanilla extract over your skin if you chose a cotton ball for application.
- Wait for relief!

I assume this is just the alcohol in the extract evaporating off and cooling the burn? I suspect that the usual techniques (ice cubes in a baggie, with a dishtowel wrapped around) might work better longer...

That relief is simply the alcohol evaporating off the skin-- a pretty expensive way to do it at that. Also, alcohol probably is not a good idea on a burn because it will dry out the skin. The best thing for a burn is right there in the kitchen anyway-- lots of cold water!!

Actually, artificial vanilla extract is manufactured from clove oil, which is a topical anaesthetic (and a systemic when mixed with water and used on fish and amphibians) which will contribute to numbing the burn
